Subtitles MKV Samsung Smart TV

Hello All,

We have a 2016 samsung UHD TV and I am not able to enable subtitles when I play an mkv video with embedded subtitles. I am trying to play it from the hard drive connected to One Connect Box.

When I play the same mkv video on a laptop in VLC player, I can select subtitles.

The reason why I did not play mkv file on laptop and connect it to tv is the laptop is not powerful enough to play hidef mkv video.

Any thoughts on playing the mkv video with subtitles on the tv?

Thanks!

Try downloading a non-embedded copy of the subtitles, call it the same thing as the MKV file (except the file extension, of course) and place it in the same folder. I think that's how my older Samsung TV works.

or just use plex. google it. i think samsung tv has the plex client built in. if your tv is smart tv.
then you just need plex server running. google everything. easy to follow. all free.

and see post above. name must EXACTLY the same between movie and sub.
make sure the sub extension is srt, and you can open with notepad

    • that sounds like a good idea. I will try to install it on my pi 3

      • yeah once it running, you will be oh my g*** why i never know this sh/****
