Suggestions to supplement income

I have a full time job and I am the only earned. I am looking for ways to supplement my income as I am not able to save anything. Just not planning to drive with Uber right now.

The amount of effort and research you put into a post is equal to the amount of effort of the replies.

  • what qualification/skills do you have? what much spare time do you have in a week? etc…

You could probably work the whole weekends and weeknights as a waiter or kitchen hand.

Or were you after an EASY way to supplement income?

Check out those ads that teach you how to make 1760 dollars a week working from home. They make it sound easy.

"1760 dollars a week working from home".
    $1,760 × 48 = $84,480 per year (factoring in 4 weeks holiday.
When it sounds too good to be true…
Unless of course you are a professional (accountant, engineer, etc) with a home based office, but then you would not need some ad to teach you how to do it.

Spend you Saturday mornings hitting garage sales then resell on ebay, facebook and gumtree through the week. Not an easy way to make extra money but the more you do it the better you get.

    • You can get the occasional bargain on gumtree/ebay to resell too. I do that occasionally with bicycles. I enjoy working on them and 'rescuing' some from the tip and then onsell. Doesn't pay for my time though and certainly isn't highly profitable, but does pay for some upgrades to my rides.

I just picked up 2 bikes for $5 and should be able to replace my cheapest general purpose/kiddie seat bike that I bought for $15 with one of them . I'll then sell the old one for about $50 if I can as it is a good solid bike.

  • If your spare time is in the evening try online survey sites.

If you have spare time on the weekends try catalogue deliveries.

What amount of time you can devote to extra income? This will be one of the factors in how much extra money you can earn.

Look at ways of cost cutting as well as ways of earning money.

  • Thanks all for your suggestions.

  • Invest in :
    a) yourself … study (at an educational institute or on your own) to better yourself to be more employable and to be able to earn more at your current workplace
    b) shares … learn how to do it if you don't already - and if you find its not for you, then move on
    c) property … as above
    d) learning about other opportunities you can "invest" in (eg. numismatics/collectibles? ATMs? MLM? etc)
    e) an idea for a business, find a partner if you want …it doesnt need to be glamorous or complex - it just needs to work

Thats just a quick brainstorm .. not everything will work for you, not everthing is a good idea , but its always worth looking into before you diss it.

EDIT: Another idea… get another job on the weekends if you can afford the time. If not - sporadic days such as election days . Government/local councils usually looking for people to hire - check out the website. I hear the pay is quite reasonable. If you're in NSW, there is one coming up for SOME councils on september 10.

    • Thanks very much. Very practical and doable.

From personal experience I have been paid by Toluna, Opinion World, Mint Surveys, Oz Panel and Ipsos(My view). There are many other sites. You could also go looking for Nielsen Homescan or Nielsen Mobile. Nielsen Mobile (not sure of the full name of the site) is an app which runs on your phone and collects data. You don't actually have to do surveys to collect points.

Try searching for Survey Police. This is a website which discusses online survey sites. Most of the discussion is about American sites but they do list some sites which are available to Australians. Survey police also has explanations of how survey companies work and what to expect.

For me, the best Australian site has been Mint Surveys. I don't know whether you need an invitation to join. There are snail mail coupon books sometimes which have an invitation to Mint Surveys.

One way of seeing whether the online survey sites are reliable is to do web searches on the name to find forum discussions on them. You'll get a mix of good and bad reports from each survey site. I suggest choosing sites where you can redeem vouchers or other payment methods from small amounts such as $10 or $20. This way you can get to your first reward fairly quickly and won't have to worry about spending a huge amount of time and never getting paid.
