The "Best" GTX 1070 Ain't ASUS Strix - It's Gigabyte GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming

I noticed a lot of people prefer Asus Strix cards and indeed after comparing to the field they are relatively high overclocked - however I got to wondering just what is the best GTX 1070 as far as factory overclocking? I mean that's why people prefer the Strix series right.

Well it turns out there are several cards that are factory overclocked to higher levels and the Gainward GTX 1070 Phoenix GLH Gigabyte GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming is the highest.

Asus Strix GTX 1070 OC Gaming: GPU: 1657 RAM: 1860 Noise: 39dBA (overclocked profile)

Gainward GTX 1070 Phoenix GLH: GPU: 1670 RAM: 1873 Noise: 34dBA

Gigabyte GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming: GPU: 1873 RAM: 2553 Noise: unknown

Unfortunately I couldn't find a review from the same source so the dBA levels are probably off - however even 39dBA is close to silent. However the ASUS has 3 smaller fans vs 2 larger fans so it makes sense from that point of view.

Caveats: this is 15 minutes of looking around, the conclusions I present are to be taken with a grain of salt.

Gigabyte gtx 1070 Xtreme has a higher base and boost clock

    • Wow and by some margin:

Asus Strix GTX 1070 OC Gaming: GPU: 1657 RAM: 1860 Noise: 39dBA (overclocked profile)

Gainward GTX 1070 Phoenix GLH: GPU: 1670 RAM: 1873 Noise: 34dBA

Gigabyte GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming: GPU: 1873 RAM: 2553

Can't find much on noise levels ATM.

      • What about liquid nitrogen?

By GPU you mean the base clock and by RAM, you mean the boost clock.

Where do you get the 2553 from?

According to both OEM websites, the Gigabyte boost clock in OC mode is only 2% higher than the Asus.

  • The Strix cards are also notorious for having coolers that are recycled and slapped onto newer cards, whereas models from other manufacturers are generally customised for the chip.
