Laser Printer - after peoples opinons

Looking for a laser printer less than $100.

  • Ideally will have a scanner, duplex printing and is monochrome (don't care about colour).
  • Refills on Ebay for the printer recommendation will not cost more than $20-$30.
  • Hopefully won't be a piece of trash and last for a couple of years.

Your experiences? And also any idea on what good prices are for your recommendations?

Thanks.

This one might be alright if you got the good guys $25 off voucher i think?

  • Didn't sign up for that deal till now (can't believe i didn't!)
Thanks for that. Will likely miss out on that deal as it expires tomorrow, but looks like i can get something within that price range with that discount. Question is what…

    • Bear in mind that model doesn't do duplex, and no ADF for the scanner, so it's pretty limited.

Do yourself a favour, pay a bit more for one of the Brother models that has the features you want, not just the price.

  • Too true, mate
What do you think of this: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/brother-hl-l2340-mono-laser-p…
Doesn't have a scanner, but would sacrifice that if this is decent.

    • Personally, I'd be looking at something along the lines of the MFC-L2700 series…that ticks all of your boxes for upwards of $150.

I went for the 2740 @ ~$220 some time back, duplex scanning as well as printing were important to me.

Check Staticice & ebay, with the CHOICE20 code still working you might snag a bargain from Futu et al. :)

  • Good luck for that money mate
Will not be getting that huge list of features if you are paying peanuts

looking at 200+ for those features at LEAST

    • Unless he's buying 2nd hand from gumtree. I'm having a sensible chuckle thinking he could find a full refill for $20-$30.

      • I used to get a full set of fuji xerox colour toner for my C225 for 40 bucks delivered
it is doable but you gotta find the right machine

        • That's offset toner right? If you're buying genuine toner, it'll cost more than that.

        • @fossilfuel:

          Compatible

Funny story though that machine was a replacement to my free gumtree pickup that had a wierd issue with the belt dropping colours in and out
ended up being a bad contact of the ITB unit, fixed it and away it went

Fuji sent me the upgraded CM225fw free of charge as a warranty job

$40 for a full set of high yield compatible toner did the job perfectly for me and tbh never saw a difference in print quality or drum / dev wear using it

  • Thanks for all of the comments, much appreciated.
I'm assuming that it is not an OEM toner is it? I've only seen toners costing > $100 on average, so will assume it is.
We have lowered our expectations and removed the scanner from being a must have.
So now it is just duplex printing and monochrome.
    Your thoughts on that?
I was hoping to go with the suggestion of the $25 good guys credit, getting a few of those and then merging them to get something from them. In particular was looking at this: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/brother-hl-l2340-mono-laser-p…
    Thoughts?

  • For what its worth I can tell the difference between genuine toner and non genuine toner in my Brother MFC.

    • depends on the supplier
cheaper all in one units have crap toner transfer rollers

The brother compatible stuff I have used has been just as good if not better than OEM

  • Bought the Brother 2340 for $70 after $50 credit store credit was used at TGG. Can't fault the printer, works well and having wifi is really nice.

  • I have the same requirements as OP and am currently considering these:

    Brother DCP-1510
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/brother-dcp-1510-mono-laser-m…

    Brother MFC-1810
    http://cplonline.com.au/printers/laser-mono/brother-mfc-1810…

    Brother MFC-L2700
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/brother-mfc-l2700dw-mono-lase…

Are there others I can take a look at? Availability of Low-cost high yield toners is my primary consideration. If the price is significantly low, I can forego duplex. Scanner is still a must.
