How does Dick Smith's extended warranty work now?

A few months ago, the company that provided the extended warranty for Dick Smith confirmed that they would indeed honour the warranty of those products purchased during the receivership period. See here: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2016/03/dick-smith-extended-warran…

Does anyone know how this works? Is it still a replacement warranty? Who would we need to contact? How do they assess the product (do we need to ship it to them or is there a local store we could bring the faulty item to)? Has anyone gone through the process? Who do we call?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

  • Just check the paperwork.

  • From memory it's a 3rd party that covers it (even before they closed)

  • um whats the item? depends on what it is..

  • Why wouldn't you call the number on the paperwork? Is there something you have left out?

    • Yeah, I do intend on doing that. It's still Sunday, and I wanted to know if anyone had any info they could give beforehand, so I know what my options are. Maybe someone who's gone through the process before.

Depends on the product, the warranty company involved, your location and so forth. To many variables and not enough information to answer the question.

        • It's Dick Smith Extended Warranty, not Manufacturer's warranty. Usually, you'd just bring in your faulty product, they'd inspect it, and if deemed actually faulty, give you a replacement. That's how it works.

I'm not sure how it's changed now that Dick Smith no longer exists. It's still the same third party company that provides the extended warranty, but who would you bring it to now? Things like that. There should be an overall process to follow with regards to extended warranty claims.

Thanks for pointing out exactly what I said.

No it's not, they will repair if possible.

If your bothered to read the article that you posted one of the comments said you could take some items back to some retail stores but if you don't call them you will never know.

There were a number of companies involved with the warranties and nothing has changed except you can no longer take it to Dick Smith and instead take it to one of the repair agents. Most of them were sold by the warranty group so contact them.

Private branded items are covered by the administrator and you call the old Dick Smiths help line.
