Unbrick Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime

Ok, I know what you are going to say, but I'm sorry.

So I saw that there was the MIUI 8 OTA update available tonight so I (stupidly) decided to update the phone, only now it is bricked/bootlooping and does not go past the "Mi" opening screen before restarting. (Bootloader is locked btw)

Before you ask, yes I have thoroughly checked through the thread below, but cannot get it to enter "EDL mode" using "dab reboot edl" nor by the method linked on that thread (2nd link below)

Thanks for you help in advance

EDIT: if it makes any difference to your recommendations, I have fastboot already on the phone (the bunny)

Also, when I use CMD to enter EDL, I can recognise the device attached, but when I enter "dab reboot edl" it just reboots normally and stops at the "Mi" screen as usual

  • Am I right to say that it goes to the "Mi" screen, then the screen blacks out and the phone hangs?
If that's the case, don't worry. I freaked out for a day before finally figuring out the solution.

Solution: After it loads the Mi screen and hangs, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE. Leave it as it is. Come back to it in 2 - 3 hours, and magically your phone will be switched on and working.

    • That is not quite what happens. When it turns on, the "Mi" screen comes on for about 20 seconds, then the phone reboots and the mi screen sits there for another 20 seconds. Rinse and repeat.

Am currently in the process of trying to flash the rom onto it using miiflash, but still working out some new problems that came up with that.

      • sorry to hear that. Can't help you then.

No worries. I probably should have just left the phone to do it's thing in the first place but I have now flashed the new update and everything is ok now….except for the loss of data, but there's not much I can do about that now

  • There's quite a number of YouTube videos with instructions.

  • I upgraded mine last night. After finished the download, I click reboot and leave it overnight as I went to bed. In the morning it's successfully upgraded. Sorry to hear what you experienced. I never thought that OTA will screw up.

Yeah, I didn't think so either. But it's ok now. I managed to flash the rom through the pc.
