OzB's Favourite Bank Now Supporting Android Pay

Cue rejoicing?

Not sure if this is sufficient trade off for the removal of the 2% paywave cash back at the end of September, but it sure makes things more convenient for some.

ING Direct now support Android Pay!

After feeling indifferent for a while about keeping my accounts, I think I'll be leaving them open now, particularly given the no ATM fees and competitive international transaction rates (particularly overseas withdrawals).

I think most people will not be using ING after September. It would be better to use normal credit cards and earn points.

    • Yep, I'm most like closing my account with them. Interest rates on the Savings account decreased and no more PayWave cashback after September :(

even though they are dropping the cashback, i still think the product they offer is good for an everyday transaction account

Fair enough. Their offering is not terrible, and I am sure they have had lots of exposure due to the Paywave cashback and gained quite a few home loan and super customers as well. But for the people like me who use their accounts solely for the 2% cashback, most will stop using them. I am guessing this proportion of customers is not a small number, but I am sure they have done their maths and deemed it to be acceptable.

Have been using android pay, thought it would be gimmicky but it's faster and easier to pull out phone rather than pull out wallet and then card.

But my phone doesn't support NFC. :( Maybe next phone deal. Not too fussed about using PayWave/Pass for now but probably there'll be deals to promote Android Pay. But I'll keep my ING account as a backup card for overseas travel.

  • can we still use android pay if rooted?
how about samsung pay in rooted devices?
