Help with February Holiday to UK and Hong Kong.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice/help on planning a trip to the UK from Melbourne with a stop off in Hong Kong.

I am wanting to plan a trip to the UK (Particularly Belfast NI) and spend 2-3 weeks in the UK.
I want to stop off for a few days (up to a week) in Hong Kong either on the way or way back.

Wondering if anyone could help me find the cheapest flights to make this trip possible.

I am happy to land in any UK airport (London, Dublin etc)
Wishing to leave Melbourne around 1st of Feb 2017.
1 leg I want to stop off in Hong Kong for up to a week.
Don't mind where stop off is on other leg.
Would prefer as direct as possible (other than 1 major stop off between Aus-UK)
Would prefer "safer" airlines if possible

Does anyone have tips on what airlines to fly, tips of finding cheapest way of doing this trip (days, stopovers, websites etc.)

Any advice would be great.

Thanks.

  • Skyscanner is your friend.

Rather than booking individual segments, do a "multi-city" booking as it will likely be cheaper.

It's good that you are going in February as that's usually the cheapest month.

I did some sample searches for you which are showing $1500 on full service airlines…

  • Check out Clickie at http://clickie.in. I had a great experience using them.

  • +2

Cathay Pacific. It's certainly the easiest/most direct, especially with stop over in Hong Kong. Cathay is one of the best airlines in the world, so don't expect it to be the cheapest.
If I were you, I would stop over in Hong Kong on the way back, so you don't have to carry your shopping in the UK for 3 weeks.

  • Cathay/BA is going to be the best option.

    An example:

    1st flight Cathay Pacific
    Wed, 1-Feb-17
    Melbourne (MEL) 15:25
    Hong Kong (HKG) 21:45

    2nd flight British Airways
    Tue, 7-Feb-17
    Hong Kong (HKG) 23:30
    London (LHR) 04:45 (+ 1)

    3rd flight British Airways
    Tue, 28-Feb-17
    London (LHR) 20:50
    Melbourne (MEL) 08:15 (+ 2)
    1stop

    Is $1536 on eDreams.

Or you can book it with a connecting flight to Belfast from LHR for $1617.

Booking it with the stop in HKG on the way back is similar. I'd suggest if you're going to go directly to Belfast on one leg to do it from/to HKG otherwise it will be 2 stops and a very long flight Belfast-Melbourne.

  • Thanks for the tips guys, ill do a few searches on sky scanner and see what suits best.

  • Here is a longer route. Alternatively look at jetstar to Bkk then Finnair business via Helsinki to wherever in europe and then back to BKK for about $2300. I know that someimes Finnair returns via Hong Kong. Maybe ring Finnair in Sydney and make enquiries

Have not calculated Jetstar fare at all.

Royal Brunei have good return fares in Feb but that they have stop over in Bsb.
