2x LG G4 damaged phones - What would you suggest for bootloop and water damage?

Hello!

Looking to see what makes the most sense money wise.

I've got two LG G4 phones;

Phone 1

  • Bought outright from the devil (Yatango) last year.
  • Phone ended up with a bootloop problem, decided not to fix it (no local warranty)

Phone is currently sitting at home, in a box

Phone 2

  • After phone 1 bootloop'd, I signed onto a 24 month contract with Optus in order to get a new phone.
  • This phone managed to get into the wash and now has water damage that is unfixable.

My questions are:

Is it worthwhile sending Phone 1 to the LG repair store in Lidcombe, paying $200-300 to fix it? I'd be eligible for 6 months warranty and it would be done in 1-5 days

Or,

Should I simply get a new phone?

From my understanding, Optus won't be able to do anything about Phone 2 ( I don't have any warranty on it. Surprise!) and if I did get a new phone from them, I'd need to pay that handset's repayments and phone 2 for the duration of both contracts

Comments

  • the alternative is to remove the IMEI sticker from phone 1 and send it to be repaired under the warranty for phone 2…

    • When Phone 1 first borked, I went to a repair man who thought he could do something similar. Unfortunately, Phone 1 is a dual sim phone.

  • Get a new one, LG G4 has a short life due to bootloop. Maybe you can trade in your damage phone for extra cash. I think the screen part worth $100 on ebay.
so $200-300 repair, plus 2 screens $200 can get you a better budget for a new phone.

  • R.I.P. LG G4. I'm still using it after boot loop repairs but paranoid it could die on me again any moment now…

  • This doesn't answer your question, but may I ask why you dislike Yatango? I have not had to interact with them ever, which is perfect in my books. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if they're terrible to deal with if you ever have to, as is my experience with other cheap providers.

  • Sell both and buy a new phone.

Just be wary that some people can take pics off the phone internal storage though.

  • Get rid of both LG handsets and buy a RN3 pro.

Cheaper then repair costs and better for your health.
