Coles Reloadable Mastercard - Over The Counter Cash Advance Overseas?

Can you get a local currency cash advance using a Coles Reloadable Mastercard when travelling?
My daughter wants to use this card while overseas, but to use an ATM you need to be over 18 (she is not) and pass their ID verification.
Purchases are fine, but can she get cash out via a Bureau De Change or similar?

  • Since when does the bank teller comes out to the street and check ID of people withdrawing money from the ATM? You can also use a travel money card to reload with the country's local currency to be used overseas.

    • A "feature" of the Coles reloadable Mastercard is that international ATM access is only turned on if you are over 18yro and validate your ID to them.

  • Why not get a citibank plus account and get a card on that account for her.

I think there is a restriction for a secondary card holder to be 16. If she is under 16 then the only way around it, is for her to use your card.

Simpler, cheaper and better exchange rate with no ATM fees at certain ATM's, no load fees. Also fairly easy for you to top up account here should she need emergency money.

  • Not a lot of replies on this question.

I was looking for a similar solution. Looked at a Citibank Plus, but all applicants need to be 18 or over.

Travelcards have so many different fees.

This Coles Reloadable Card even has a fee if you ring them !

In the end just got a NAB Classic Banking account with Debit card. Was a joint account, one person had to be over 18.

At least this gave overseas ATM access (and over the counter), which is probably a feature you do want.

Whilst it isn't so fee free compared to Citibank it was only for a short time not many transactions were made.

The other advantage was, because we had NAB accounts, the card was linked as so could top up instantly.

The NAB account card doesn't have a monthly fee. ANZ offers something similar, with monthly fee fee, but you only have to be over 16 to apply (So could apply in own right).

Whilst costing more, was a much simpler solution.
