Nexbox A95X Owners - How Is The Real Life Wi-Fi Performance?

Hi all,

I am currently considering to downgrade my Nvidia Shield to a cheapo Android TV box around $50.

I am eyeing on the Nexbox A95X with S905x/2G/8G/Android 6.0 but so far I have got mixed impressions about it's wifi performance. I know that 90% of these boxes have shitty wifi but I still want to see how 'bad' it is. I don't really need more than 2megabyte/sec. It would be great if I can get some realistic feedback from actual users.

there are quite a few variants so please state:

  • CPU - S905/S905x?
  • Ram - 1G/2G?
  • Storage - 8G/16G?
  • Distance to router - How many meters? Any walls in between etc.
  • Wifi Speedtest - in mbit or mbyte?
  • Other thoughts?

Thanks guys.

  • Interesting. Shield it's probably the most powerful Android device which currently exists on the market. Abby reason for the downgrade?

    • Yeah I know and that's the sole reason I bought it. However, I realise that I am only streaming 720p/1080p on Kodi which most of the cheapo boxes are capable of. I reckon I might as well cash out that $200 difference.

  • i was googling the exact same box for user reviews today because i clicked Zapals. Would be interested to know too. User reviews its pretty much set up for you already all you need to do is plug in, do some very basic tweak and you are set.

would love to hear from other people as my parents want one but i bought one before and had no idea how to set it up or what their 'friends' were using. i couldnt ask their friends because they have no idea as well as they just pay for someone to do it -.-

    • I have no doubt about video performance on the A95X. There are plenty of YouTube reviews around. Wifi is really the pain point.

  • I would consider one with an aerial or you can always use a wifi access point/repeater/bridge alternatively

    • Thought about this option but adding a $50 repeater makes the whole money saving incentive a bit mood.

I was also trying to find usb dongle that works with Android but apparently there's none.

I have S905 MX Pro box. wifi is great. works through 2 plaster board walls at a distance of 20 metres. only tested it with youtube and internet.

    • Cheers. Btw, how do you know this one has the same WiFi performance like the MX Pro?

      • sorry, I don't know about the wifi of the sunvell. but for AU$30 delivered and the few decent reviews I read then it seems quite worth it.

here is a review from androidtvbox.com

reviewer stated = "I had no problem with Ethernet and WiFi connection to my router"

if the wifi sucks then buy a wifi amplifier like this one[http://www.everbuying.net/product1128914.html] for less than US$8 delivered - even less if you buy it with a new account and EB points and mobile site.

how many walls will you have between the router and box?

        • Only half a wall and about 8m away from the router. That WiFi extender looks fun. =)

        • @MadMaxBargainRoad:

          half a wall and about 8m away - shouldn't be a problem.

though, what sort of router do you have?

        • @altomic: Dlink 2890dsl. I am a bit sceptical bcoz I just returned this due to bad WiFi. Apples and oranges I know but it's still an android box.

        • @MadMaxBargainRoad: just out of curiosity , did you try changing the wireless channel on your router?

        • @altomic: Good question. No I haven't. It didn't occur to me coz all my other devices on the same spot works really well. Hmmm.. in that case maybe I should give the A95x a go? I can get it from Aliexpress @$40 aud for the 2g/8g version.

I also realised that the review you linked is for the T95 which has an external antenna. Does the MX Pro have one as well?

        • @MadMaxBargainRoad: no external antenna on the mx pro. though one could probably hacked in.

        • @altomic: Great, that gives me a bit more confidence now. I am going to test the water with Nexbox. Thanks for all the info mate.

  • I have this box and the WiFi performance for me is perfect
