Dodo's Price Increase (Due to NBN Plans I Don't Want/ Need)

did anyone else got this email today ?

At Dodo, we're committed to providing our customers with affordable internet plans.

Due to increases in the cost of supplying these services we are making some changes to continue to meet the needs of our customers.

These changes will take effect on 1 October 2016.

We understand that a rate increase is never good news, but we have now priced your service to align with our NBN plans. That means, when you are NBN ready you'll be upgraded to an equivalent plan at no additional cost, subject to your location. You can visit dodo.com.au to find out when you will be eligible for an NBN service.

Rest assured, our plans continue to be competitive in the market.

after being with them for several years its time to look for a budget friendlier option I think

( The rollout of the nbn™ network has not started in my area )

Wow really? Are you in a contract?

  • Bookmarking as I have also got the same email and I am also planning on changing.

@ Hipmumma no not in a contact

and I do not see why I should pay for something I am not yet using

( or ever planned to use )

  • So are they increasing the price in advance to NBN levels while waiting for the NBN service to come?

    • Good way of scaring away your customers away I'd say.

  • With Dodo on ADSL2+, not in an area with an NBN rollout scheduled, did not receive the above email.

Gotta say the most moronic email ever…. :-)

  • try calling them to get a straight answer out of them - if you really want " moronic"

  • adsl service at nbn prices? what could possibly be wrong with that …

  • I have received the same email and I'm changing. How can they charge extra for something that is not yet available

  • I know NBN FTTN is being activated in my area in Feb- March.

I got the same email saying my rates were changing.

""These changes will take effect on 23 January 2017.""

  • In brief - I contacted Dodo and reduced my monthly plan from the threatened $45 to a 12-month contract at $35.
Sorry about the length of this reply but it shows the process I went through to get this.

I got the same email in Perth northern suburbs, WA.
I'm on a month by month plan at $39.90 for unlimited ADSL2+, but they wanted to increase it by $5.
I checked out other internet providers but Dodo are actually the cheapest ones out there.
While I was browsing the contracts on their website, a chat window popped up and I finished up getting a 12 month contract for unlimited ADSL for $35.
    The chat dialogue was:

Jerome - Hello there. Welcome back! How may I help you today?

Customer - Unhappy that I've received an email saying that my ADSL2+ is going up in price. What are my options?

Jerome - I need to pull up your account to check on it.
[I entered account number and full name, date of birth and address]
You are currently on ADSL2+ UNLIMITED Metro plan for $39.90 a month fee.
There is $5 increase. This is not in contract.
I suggest we put this on contract to get the discount.
If we add a further 24 month contract for your service on Metro ADSL Unlimited, it will be with a monthly recurring fee of $34.9.
I haven't heard from you, would you still like to continue with the chat?

Customer [During this time I was reading the contract conditions].
How much for a 12 month contract? Any set-up fee?

Jerome - It is the same fee for 12 month contract. The effectivity date will be set on 13/01/2017 and Contract End Date is on 13/01/2018.

Customer - OK, I would like to set up a 12 month contract for Metro ADSL Unlimited, to start on 13/01/2017.

    Jerome - Sure.
    Terms and Conditions
You have chosen to add a further 12 month contract for your service on Metro ADSL Unlimited with a monthly recurring fee of $34.9. If you cancel your service before the contract expiry, you will be liable for an early termination fee of $16 per month multiplied by the number of months remaining in your term.
Do you understand and agree with the above?

    Customer - Yes

    Jerome - Okay.
The recontracting process was completed successfully!
Is there anything else I may assist you with?

Customer - No, thanks very much, bye.

So I got a seamless transfer onto a cheaper contract with my preferred ISP. I've been with Dodo since 2003 so I'm probably safe in getting a contract now rather than sticking with my month-by-month plan.

  • I'm in contract and didnt get this. About the only time contract works out for the customer.

Be that as it may I find it a bit specious that they put up ADSL prices to prepare for NBN but this is about the level of buffoonery I'd expect from Dodo.

Also as I read it, if you get back onto a contract they can lower your price? That also sounds suspicious.

  • Like the hammer88, I got the same letter with $5 increase to $44.99 mentioning the NBN and saying "These changes will take effect on 23 January 2017", but wait for it — a few days later I get my monthly bill for $69.99!!!!!!!!!!!! not $44.99!
I rang immediately to complain (have had 2 calls) and can get no sense from anyone in Manila - they just repeat like parrots that 'sorry, this is your new contract rate'. Finally after a lot of yelling (from me!) a supervisor has intervened and dropped it to $59.99 and I now have received a second email confirming this! This is still a 50% increase on my current deal with no change whatever to the infrastrucure or the connection!! (NBN is not here yet (Mornington Peninsula) but will be soon, I believe). What the heck is going on??? It looks to me like we are all going to be facing massive internet fee increases to pay for the bl**dy NBN. Every day I'm seeing teams of people and trucks installing boxes and pulling cables - I guess the time has come where someone has to pay for it all, so, may as well hit the internet user. Rather like the state governments keep hitting the motorist with more speed traps whenever they need to raise more money to pay their salaries!
The price of internet in this country is absurd - when I'm in Vietnam I pay $7/mo for unlimited adsl2+ with 30Mb/s speed!

    • isnt this pretty easy?

either churn or go on contract
