Vodafone Is Losing Its Mojo ?

1) My years long association with Vodafone is turning sour. 4G speed wise, Optus and Vodafone are very similar in Melbourne and Sydney. Optus offering un-metered Netflix and Vodafone not is like Vodafone cheating their customers with inferior service. Vodafone don't even offer spotify/Apple music quota free.

2) Also Vodafone insurance is super crappy. You pay $15 ( same as Telstra Stay connected) and get hugely inferior service. My phone got damaged and their support asked me to send my phone for 3 WEEKS for it to be repaired and they don't offer any Load phone. 3 WEEKS without phone. Telstra Stay connected, sends the replacement phone first and then asks the customer to send their phone. Stay connected sends replacement phone in 2 business days keeping the downtime to a minimum. Vodafone is charging the same but giving a massively inferior service.

3) Vodafone has removed unlimited international calls to 10 countries, while Optus still has it. When your competitor is offering the service, how can Vodafone remove it ?

Any reasons to stay loyal to Vodafone ? Or will Optus prove to be a better mate ?

I am having similar feeling. I am currently have both Voda (phone plan) and Optus (iPad MBB) postpaid plans and their quality of service is around the same in my area - nothing to complaint about but nothing is in an excitement.

The only reason I am still with Voda is their international roaming plans, e.g, free roaming in NZ and $5 in some other countries. In fact, I don't think I really need this as I rarely travel abroad.

My current contract is due to expire this months and I have additional phone on a repayment plan. I am just thinking the same thing but my current feeling is still to stick with them.

They never had any mojo to start with IME…

    Move to Optus.
Telstra if you want better insurance.

    • Optus no, so many dramas in just a week worst customer service ever. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/264284

    • Telstra insurance was a joke when i had it
too many hoops and for 15 a month, the stayconnected rubbish they offered on my HTC was a joke
the amount of times it locked me out of my phone

Telstra's network is pathetic these days, slowly becoming the new Optus imho

Telstra has the range provided you utilise it, if you are a city slicker then doesnt really matter who you are with they all have overseas call centres.

Loyalty to companies is stupid. If they aren't giving you what you need/want, and someone else will, move on.

exactly today, plans change, the only benefit I see is getting a new device each year with the telstra plans but at a big cost when you average it up over a 12 month vs 24 month contract

Plans change so much now loyalty is simply non existant, only really for bigger business customers etc with leverage on deals and pricing and custom plans
I am now on a BYO device on a company plan and seem to have less dramas as I have a device I want, on a company plan they pay for and get pooled data

I guess it all depends on the following

      1. do you want the latest and greatest phone right now or can you live with your current device on a better BYO no lock in contract plan

I was with vodafone from the time they were 3network. Move last year to Amaysim. Now to optus. ran into trouble with the customer service as mentioned above. I used to get phones on postpaid contract with Vodafone in the past. Now I am sticking to my decision to buy phone outright like 6-8 months after release (look what happened to Note7). Go on a 40 dollar plan or something. You save a good amount. Yes Vodafone has lost its Mojo.

could not agree more, note 7 was a total disaster
glad I cancelled and bought the galaxy s7 edge with the same hardware and non exploding battery

Shop around as there are promotions popping up all the time. Loyalty does not land you promotional offers with new customers only statement. So if you an existing customer then no luck.

It seems that Voda is making their offers (SIM / Prepaid) less and less attractive.

Voda started off with 300 minutes to "any country", then changed this to "selected countries", then "1000" minutes and now, you get a choice. Either an extra 2 gig or international minutes.

Luckily, i signed mum up when they had 300 minutes without country restriction.

I prefer Optus. Coverage is better BUT, customer service is really bad. If you have a problem, your in the shit. On the other hand, when you call during business hours to Voda, its an Aus based call center and the service is 2nd to none IMO. Even offshore isnt too bad…..better than Optus…..again, IMO.

I have had some wins with Telstra bundle (not mobile) calling their Adelaide retention center and getting awesome deals on my Foxtel, landland and Bigpond. For example, an extra 200gig of data on my bigpond, the $99 platinum package for foxtel and they even sent me a SAmsung Galaxt TabA with 1 gig of data for free with new phone feeling.

I guess it just comes down to the rep on the other end of the phone……

    Thanks.

You've already made your decision and Telcos aren't your family and friends, so move. Don't feel bad lol

Just go with one of the MVNOs like aldi, woolies, telechoice etc if you live in a metro area. Great value and good enough speeds. This will also get the major carriers to bring their price down and improve cust service. As someone already mentioned earlier, if you can wait 6-7 months and buy the handset outright, it can save you some serious $$$.

      this

I've used Woolworths mobile in the country and got about 50mbps.

      edit: and MNVOs are cheaper.

  • I consider Optus from time to time, and then I get a call from someone using them that lasts longer than a minute, and the sound quality dips to the point that it sounds like a narwhal trying to talk through a bubble-bath. I've also lost count of the number of times I have called my Amaysim [Optus reseller] when I have misplaced it in the same room, only to be informed the phone is not available on the first attempt at making it ring, while the phone itself registers a missed call.

  • Vodafail seems changed their plan structure again…

    Now it's even more annoying…

    You have only 3 options:
    1. A big chunk of data
    2. International Calls
    3. Spotify…digital membership

You may only choose one of them….

    I think it's time for a switch…

  • Now Vodafone has outdone themselves. Latest iPhone 7 plan.
    32 GB ::
Vodafone $96 per month 11 GB data and NO International calls.
Optus $100 per month, but include 400 minutes international calls AND data free Netflix & Spotify.
Telstra $99 per month 10 GB data and UNLIMITED international calls to 10 countries, which I normally dial. Telstra network is MUCH superior to Vodafone. Seems now Even Telstra is offering better value than Vodafone.

Sure, this upgrade of iPhone 7 will not see me with Vodafone.
