Alternative to Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

My father is looking to buy a new tablet - wants an Android 10 inch with good performance for around $500 and likes the Samsung tab S2. Personally I would go for a Teklast or similar Chinese unit and save some money, but he wants a "reputable and reliable brand".

Is the S2 still a good buy or is there something else to consider? He currently has an old Asus and wants something "with good performance that doesn't lag all the time like this piece of crap"

Thanks

  • If you can wait till the end of the year I suspect Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 to drop price when S3 comes out

  • How about a S1, they have pretty good specs as well. See if you can get yours on sale, I bought a 4G and 16GB version for $379 before. You could probably get an iPad air 2 16GB for $579 at Officeworks, even cheaper if you can claim TRS. http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/ipad-air-2-…

  • I'd have mentioned that you may not receive any OS updates if you opt for the Teclast (or any other Chinese brand), but that isn't really very different than Samsung.

  • You're on a hiding to nothing by talking him out of his preferred choice. The s2 is a great android tablet and if the tablet you suggest ends up lagging a bit you'll never hear the end of it.

  • I helped my mother with a new tablet few weeks ago she chose the tab s2 to replace her older Galaxy note 2014 10.1 it's a very nice and smooth tablet i was surprised i originally wanted her to buy an ipad air 2 but she wanted another samsung lol.

  • Gotta love those OLED screens. Hella expensive though. Maybe just format the Asus?

  • Thanks for the replies, he ended up getting a really good deal on the S2. Interesting re the S1 - the specs look very similar, but not that much cheaper

  • Xperia Z4 tablet, I'm currently looking for 1 myself at the moment.
Waterproof and dust resistant, can just chuck it under tap water when too smudgey, bigger display than the S2, has NFC, even fast charge and a higher resolution.

It only loses to the S2 in oled display and that's it.

$35 a month from telstra and they have a $150 upgrade every 12 month too, sure its not $500 but $35 a month is manageable and the choice to upgrade is there as well.
