Power Banks - how often do you use them?

Hi All,

Just curious for those who have bought power banks, how often do you use them?
What do you charge and when?
Is it annoying to carry around and remember to charge the power banks later?
What size did you buy and why?

I kill my phone battery in less than a day and just curious other people's experiences….

Thanks in advance!

I have a Mi Power Bank 16000mAh and every time I go to use it it's dead because the missus constantly uses it. The size is good because it's mobile enough to carry around with the phone. Tend to get 2-3 charges out of it before it needs a recharge.

I have a 5000mAh Mi Power Bank. I've used it mainly when travelling to charge my phone, and also when my phone battery needed replacing. I intended to use it for more (ipad, ereader, camera, 3ds) but everything else lasts out the day, or has a stupid special cable I forget to pack (goodbye horrible camera).

I have a 20,000mAh Mi Power Bank. It's a bit heavy to lug around but stays in my handbag. It gives me about 6 full charges for my phone. I tend to use it when travelling or when I know I will be out most of the day. Always good to have it just in case.

Hello. I have a Kodak powerbank and use it to charge my phone while I am in bed as the cable from the wall gets eaten by my rabbits while I am using it so this is a better option. Also when I am gaming and my mouse runs out of charge its easier to hook it into my powerbank.

Love this comment. Can just picture your industrious rabbit waiting to get a nibble on the cable. They are renown for it of course.

If I'm walking a lot I'll sometimes have a 5000mAh charging my phone in my pocket. Other times I keep and 10000mAh or 20000mAh in my bag.

    • "Walking a lot" catching pokemons?

      • Usually office to site with Pokémon inbetween.

I got a small one that was a give away at some conference i attended. I keep it my bag for emergencies, usually only ever used for when I forget to charge the dying ebook reader and need enough juice to complete my current journey to or from work.

What do you charge and when?

iPad or iPhone. Normally when I'm travelling and using google maps to navigate my way around or using trip advisor or yelp to look up a restaurant.
I use them on road trips or when camping and have one always in my bag ready to go!

Is it annoying to carry around and remember to charge the power banks later?

Not really. For reasons you'll see below I charge mine every couple of weeks

What size did you buy and why?

    2x anker 20100

Those are the BEST or one of the best on the market. Recommended by heaps of tech YouTubers and bloggers. (Note BEST not CHEAPEST). They last for days. It will charge my iPad and Phone twice. Anker is very reliable as a company and is a known brand. Used them while in Europe. Ran a 2m cable through my backpack and out the headphone jack port in my backpack then into my phone.

I have 1x Panasonic eneloop 2850mAh I got for $5(DSE sale '16) which charges my iPhone 6+ 1 and a 3rd times. It is much smaller and I take that one when I go out.

I also have another powerpod 2500mAh one

    and a 5200mAh powerpod.

Had 2 that were given to me at different times. Ended up giving them both away as never used them. Have 2 spare batteries that I almost never use as well (Samsung Note 4). Working in an office allows the opportunity to charge whenever you need and one battery lasts almost an entire day of constant use anyhow.

Xiaomi 5000maH slim power bank. It cost me just $12 AUD.

Carried with me in my backpack to work and almost every where else.

Use in case where I have to use my GPS because 10 mins of GPS use with the display on will consume roughly 15 percent of my battery.

Also I read ebooks while commuting and listen to Google Music, so usage of music streaming over LTE networks sucks a lot of juice.

When the phone gets hot the battery seems to also drop faster.

    I have a 10,000mah Xiaomi power bank.
I use it daily as I play Pokemon Go.
When i first got it it was mainly used for travelling or times when i knew that there would be limited power supply to charge my phone.
It charges my phone about 2-3 times.
I probably charge it about twice a week overnight.

I have 16000 mah Juice Up powerbank from the Dick Smith closing down sales. It's great, I charge my Galaxy S5 with it when I'm playing Pokemon Go, it lasts around 4-5 charges. Most I got was around 4 times with it being 20% left, didn't want it to die, so I would assume it could do another cycle if I was desperate.
I try and charge it at work or uni only.

Thanks everyone, very informative!! Sounds like for most people they are actually useful, so will look into getting one. I kill my phone battery most days unfortunately…

    I use a car battery
just plug into cigarette lighter attachment for free lecky
    2 usb plug $2
It also charges up those annoying powerbanks that are usually flat when you go to use them

  • I have a solar-powered 15,000 mAh unit I got from AliExpress for about $12 and it takes a few days to charge it up sunny days. It will charge my Samsung phone 100%.

I used to use an inverter in my car with a powerboard to charge all my electrical devices but after a few years it became annoying to switch it on and off every time I started/stopped the car. I wrecked two of them because I started the car with them switched on - the surge during start can wreck them.

  • I carry 3 Xiaomi 10000mah power banks on me whenever I go out and I currently do since I have Work for the Dole(Why am I on this site?). These 3 will last me a week or so depending on my insane usage of the phone when I am out. Only weird thing is that I bought one of them from Banggood the text is very faint and can't be felt as much. The other two are from Mushtato the text is more legible to read and more can be felt. The Banggood one does the job so I'm not too fussed about it. Pic here http://imgur.com/poP9eyz. The top(Pink Champagne) is Banggood and the two under it(Silver) are from Mushtato. Sorry for the crap photo of my phone (OnePlusOne)
