Nervous about a Return with Shopping Square on eBay

Hi Guys

I bought a 64gb Sandisk microsd card from the Shopping Square ebay site on the 16th of August and then messaged them via ebay the same day asking to cancel the order. I then received a reply back the next day saying that the item was already in the process of being dispatched and that they couldn't stop it now. They then said I could return it within 30 days provided it was unopened/unused etc etc. I replied saying no problem and how do I return and they replied saying wait for it to arrive and contact them again. The item arrived 22 August and I contacted them and they replied the next day providing me with a return number and the address to send it to. I mailed it back to them via registered post on the 24th, the item was sent from Canberra City to Silverwater NSW. I then didn't hear anything further so on the 29th I clicked the Return button for the order in ebay. They then contacted me back the next day saying they saw I had opened a return case and said

"We have found an eBay Returns case has been opened for your recent purchase with us. Please be assured it is not necessary to open such a case because you can directly contact us and we will resolve the matter asap. Please note that a return instruction has been provided for this purchase earlier. Our technical support team will follow up with you shortly. Hence for the time being we humbly request you to close the returns case without hesitation. Thank you."

I then closed the Returns case and sent them a follow up message asking them if they had received my return mail yet. They replied saying no but "once we receive the item, we will inform you and will be following up with the item accordingly.". This is on the 30th of August. Checking with Auspost on the 1st of September they advised that the mail had been delivered to them and signed for just after midday on the 31st. I then waited until yesterday afternoon (5th September) when I sent them another message on ebay advising that Auspost had confirmed delivery and did they have any update on my return status? It is now the early afternoon of the following day and I haven't had a reply to that message, or otherwise any indication that they have received my returned item and if they will honor the refund.

They have now had my returned item for about about 3 business days (half Thursday, all day Friday and Monday, half of Tuesday) and I haven't heard anything. I do understand that it isn't too long to have waited so far but I am feeling paranoid that they have tricked me somewhat into thinking I am in the process of an official return and they are going to just drag this out until the 30 day window passes and I will have no method of recourse from there on. They appear to have responded within a day at all times and have implied they would be processing the return as soon as possible, as soon as they receive the returned item.

What should I do? Am I being impatient? Am I at risk of losing the chance for a refund if this isn't resolved in the next 10 days? Should I contact ebay in advance and ask them to reopen the return case?

On a semi-related note I paid with paypal and also claimed the return shipping via their reimbursement program with Telus International Group. Should I contact Paypal and attempt a charge back on the microsd card?

To a lesser extent, I filed the return shipping claim with Telus on the 31st of August and while I received a near instant confirmation of my claim being received, they haven't since processed that either - no further contact and no money appearing in my paypal account. Other people on OzB have previously mentioned getting a fairly speedy refund from Telus.

    tldr
" Am I being impatient?" yes

    • hmm ok fair enough. I got a response from my message to them yesterday just now saying

"please note that we have delivery arrangement with our local post office as parcels are being delivered from our PO Box address to our office/warehouse from time to time. based on the information you provided, the item might have only reached our PO Box address and is yet to be delivered to our office/warehouse. as stated, as soon as we receive the item, our technical support staff will be following up for you and we would be updating the status with you very shortly."

      • that sounds right, i imagine that would have heaps of people sending stuff back to them, i think they actually said the same thing to me 2 years ago when i sent a phone back to them…

  • It has now been over a week since the card (sent via registered envelope mail) was marked as recieved at the PO Box for Shoppingsquare. Still no ETA as to when they will receive their mail at their main office or how long it will take to process a return. If I had some approximate date/times to work with then it would be a lot easier.

  • VERY nervous now! I have not received any further contact from Shopping Square since the 5th of September. Apparently it takes 10 business days for a basic envelope to be transferred from their PO Box to their main office and for them to then acknowledge receipt of that envelope. Ebay now has in red text "Item ends 15/09/2016 4:30pm EST" next to all the messages relating to this. At what point have I been patient enough?

    • Yeah at this point i'd send them an email saying the amount of time for you to even acknowledge that you've received it is ridiculous and say you'll take it up with paypal if youre not refunded in 3 business days or something like that.

      • I sent them a message saying effectively that and their reply on 15/09 was

        "Dear [my name] ,
please understand that we have only just received the item not long ago.

we would follow up to arrange a refund for you.

your PayPal details have now been transferred to our account department for the refunding procedures. please allow a few working days for the refund to be processed.

        sincerely,
        the technical support team.

so annoying. I will update when the paypal refund arrives

        • Oh, cool so they said they have it and will now process the refund. Nothing to worry about now. Will probably be another week or so for that. Theyre a pretty reputable operation, i wouldnt be worried.

  • Did this item cost < $20? From reading your post, it seems like you're really stressed about this.
I think it's not worth the stress for $20. Just think of it as a lesson learnt to think twice about purchasing or not to buy from shopping square.

    • Fair advice, I can't disagree. The item cost $19.

I would say I am nervous because I feel like I am on the cusp of getting ripped off and that there is something I could/should be doing to avoid it however I would say I am not stressed about it. It is definitely not something I am thinking about as I try get to sleep at night or if I wake up in the middle of the night, nothing of that sort.

      • Understand that getting ripped off is a crap feeling. Good to hear that you're not losing sleep over this. Hope you get refunded.
