Washing Fruits & Veg for Juices/Smoothies

I peel carrots, wash apples (and remove seeds), kale, strawberries, etc., when I make my daily smoothy. Do you do it or do you just say juice the carrot without peeling?

Out of interest, does anyone know if the stores such as Boost Juice peel their carrots, wash kale, strawberries, etc. before juicing/blending?

I wash it just to get off any salmonella

I came here to post the same thing.

Wash everything, especially leafy greens like lettuce which can also have Listeria.

While this organism has little impact on healthy people, more severe illness may occur in immuno-compromised individuals, pregnant women and their babies, young children, cancer patients, AIDS patients and the elderly. In these people, listeriosiscan be severe.

So for most healthy people there's minimal risk.

Yeah wash those berries, the irrigation water and fertiliser used on the imported ones is not the healthiest

pretty sure boost use frozen berries and fruit pieces in their smoothies. i don't think they'd be washing them and just use them out of the packets

I see that your objective is to save time. Yeah, just washed all your fruits

I got the 2L breville blender, and blend Wombak, Silverbeet, Apple, Banana, Carrot, Avacado, Lentils, Oats, Tomato (lots), and Pumpkin. I don't add water

I split them to 4 batch and split 2 into Freezer and 2 into Fridge .. take 1 immediately

Save time preparing the smoothie and solve my intake for fruits and vegetables

No point washing because bacteria get dizzy in the blender and die from motion sickness.

Wash grapes too, no matter how clean they seem.

wash if you want, but iirc washing doesn't do much to remove pesiticides. buy organic produce if you are concerned

generally the skin/peel of veggies & fruit is the most nutritious part, containing a lot of the antioxidants to protect it from external attack

eat the apple peel and feed the rest of the apple to the possums :)

    • Yep, a lot of people on CRON diets eat the apple peels and throw the rest. I like to use small granny smith apples, which my mum thinks is nuts. They have more peel relative to flesh and happen to be much cheaper than the bigger ones.
