New to House Building at Framing Stage

Hi Everyone,
Just want to know whether it is standard practice for builders (volume builders) to use untreated pine for the frame of the house? Also would the structure of the frame degrade/rot if the wood gets constantly wet from rain etc? I assume it's standard practice.

Thanks in advance.

  • Treated pine frame would be an extra cost and have to be included at planning stage.

Also would the structure of the frame degrade/rot if the wood gets constantly wet from rain etc?

A little bit if rain is inevitable before the roof goes on and won't be a problem.

  • It might depend on the environmental conditions where you live.

  • Thanks guys, I am building in SE suburbs of MEL.

  • mmmmmmmm…. fresh house frame 8)

  • Which Builder..so i can ask this question to them when i am singing the contract with them as i am also planning to build in SE Melb next year.

  • What does your contract say? Ours came with the blue treated pine and I also got the termguard system as an extra.
