Anyone has experience with quality of Aldi Petrol Generators?

Hi,

Has anyone got experience with the quality of Aldi Petrol generators?

There is one 2000W inverter generator coming up on sale this Saturday. https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-10-…
Has 5 yr warranty apparently.

I've been thinking of getting a backup for the house during blackouts. Mainly need to power our household water pump (no town water) and a fridge. Probably use twice a year. Wondering if anyone has any experience or suggestions.

thanks !

Hey mate i was looking at this also i do not own one but you reminded me to check it out.

Specs wise it seems very similiar to this model.

A few thing differ so they could also use parts from different manufactures.

i've done some remote work using gen-sets and inverter-generators and own a brand-name unit, it's my sixth generator

The re-badges and knock-offs are normally considerably lower in grunt than the brand names… Subtract 12.5% from it's performance figures when you do you wattage sums…
This will effect how it runs in eco mode or full-blast

They are loud, Db's is 67 if i remember correctly
2Db's is twice as loud as 1Db
62Db's is Ten Times louder than 52Db
    47Db-52Db is what you want
They are really loud in a gully late at night…

Parts may be difficult to get…
Small Engine Generators want constant oils and spark-plug changes for optimum life, every two tanks of fuel is rec-commended…
Small Engine Generators can be fussy with fuel
Small Engine Generators on full blast they will use a lot of fuel

With this model, Big plus is price, you could buy three of them against the brand name….

Also consider a cradle unit for cost, performance and heat dissipation. If your mounting in the pump shack a bigger capacity cradle style may be better so it will run quieter and economically…

When you buy it, get extra spark-plugs
    IMO, Penrite30 is a must…

They often say small engine knock-offs come from the same factory as the brand name…running such machines side by side is chalk and cheese, the brand name units really are that much better….

    i got no affiliations…

Web page says 69dB that is really loud for an inverter generator.

General rule is every 3dB added doubles the noise level. If you are only going to use it twice a year it won't bug you too much - get a long extension cord.

        the general rule is debatable
for me, 1dB in the bush is noticable

i would not leave fuel in it for 6 month intervals, try to run the fuel out each run

"every two tanks of fuel is rec-commended"

    Recommended by who?

The engine is not operating at some insane level of temperature or pressure that is going to denature the oil in a few hours use, likewise the sparkplugs.
Clean the air filter regularly, check your plugs, first oil change after a couple of tanks then as required by manufacturer specs.

The biggest problem with these chep generators seems to be vibrational with lots of nuts and bolts working loose or brackets cracking.

run over it with a spanner regularly to keep things tight - loctite any thing that comes undone often and don't expect too much from it (compared to name-brand) and you'll be fine.

yerr, nahh, have a nice read of the service manuals if You want to know

  • Thanks for all the comments and input. I'll go in have a look tomorrow and decide.
