RAM F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL vs F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM What Are The Differences

Hi

I'm looking to buy extra memory and stumble into this thing

G.SKILL RipjawsX 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1333MHz Memory F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL $58.99

And

G.SKILL RipjawsX 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Memory F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM $76.98

Mind telling what the difference are? Other than the price.

Thank you in advance.

  • 1333 mhz should be fine. Not worth an extra 50% price to upgrade to 1600
1600 mhz is standard these days though

    • question still stand though, what is the different?

        • You should know about speed binning.

Also there's a bit of 'fashion' going on.

To me, ddr3 1333 is a very old hat speed… hell, even ddr3 1600 is old speed. So older speed ram is less saleable so the price is lower to reflect that.

ddr3 1333 was the kinds of speeds you were expecting in ram like 5yrs ago.

  • The difference is the more expensive one is faster although whether you notice this is debateable. Despite the above comments I would go with the more expensive option given the small amounts of money involved.

the $77 one is faster (1600 vs 1333) and has low latency (CL8 vs CL9)

i think everyone missed the most importance difference

    one is blue
    one is red
