Bookshelf Speakers

Hey guys, looking for bookshelf speakers for my room to be hooked up to my pc (already have a dac). So i'll need the speakers and an amp or powered speakers.
Not sure what to look for. Budget is around 600 but will stretch if there's a decent jump in quality. Also any suggestions of decent brands i can search for on gumtree?

Cheers

  • I've got some Klipsch ones similar to these. They're amazing. This model is around your price range. If you go into a store you can probably bargain them down a little. I bought mine from the Atmosphere Audio store in Adelaide, but I'm sure there would be stores in NSW that sell them.

  • Some well-regarded powered monitor suggestions in ascending price up to your budget:

    Mackie CR3/CR4
    Presonus E5
    Audioengine A2
    KRK Rokit 5/8
    Yamaha HS5
    Audioengine A5+
    JBL LSR305/LSR308

If going down the amp+speaker route there are a ton of speaker options. JBL and Klipsch are good brands in general. For a PC amp check out SMSL brand. Good quality and very reasonable prices.

  • I have a pair is Q Acoustic BT3 speakers for my TV. One speaker has a built-in amplifier and they perform very well. They have recieved fantastic reviews.

Great frequency response and nice and bassy.

RCA, digital input, bluetooth and AUX.

    I purchased mine for $500.

    Worth a look :)

  • i'm looking for the same thing.

in my research points, I have found Micca MB42 or MB42x from Amazon.

    https://www.amazon.com/Micca-MB42X-Bookshelf-Speakers-Tweete…

its coming up to $169AUD delivered to me. I know shipping is expensive so i'm relectunt to pull the trigger as i'm sure there should be some locally available speakers! let us know where your research takes you

    • There is a recommended local version of this called Voll B44, apparently meant to have exactly the same internals as the Miccas, and goes for $110. Check Google/whirlpool/ozb for more info

      • Thanks! Perfect

  • Maybe I'm a bit biased (I own the T1s, these are the bookshelf counterparts, same tweeters), but I'd have to recommend the PSB Alpha B1's. Very detailed, imaging is very good, and overall great value for $300- saves a bit to spend on a decent sub.
