Suggestions for DVD Ripping/Backup Software

Hi All,

I have a bunch of DVD's that I'd like to rip/backup, so that I can play the DVD's from a HDD rather than using this disc. Thus allowing me to store the original DVD's in a matter that takes up much less space, such an envelope rather than a DVD case and not need to worry about the disc getting scratched.

Any suggestions on software? I've tried Handbrake and while it's easy as to use, I was hoping to get the file size smaller (rather than 6.6gb for 1 dvd).

Thanks.

Thanks Savas, what was the average ripping time and resulting file size?

      • +1

About 10 minutes and produces about 1 GB file

Jeepers… easy as all get out to use, but it looks like it's going to be a 3 hour process for one dvd :O

        • @Adz81: Hey how did it go? Did it work well?

          @Savas:
Worked a treat, took a while, but well happy with the end result (down to 1.5th for a 2nd plus movie with excellent quality).:D
          Many thanks for the reccomendation.

Does it do dvd series also?

You have to manually tick each video for series

Handbrake has the option to reduce the size. It sounds like you haven't got it setup correctly.

(Handbrake is probably the best available, and free. So I'd suggest working with it a bit more before giving up and trying something else)

  • DVD Shrink

  • Handbrake is the best.
I wish I found it earlier. It has deinterlacing as an option which is great, it also can rip the subtitles and it shows all of the separate videos so you can rip out the bonus features and everything.
    It's free too.

Getting 6.6gb out of it doesn't make any sense to me.
