What Is Bali Like over The X-Mas/NYE Period?

Partner and I are thinking of heading to Bali between 25th Dec 2016 and 1st Jan 2017.

Can anyone comment on what Bali is like during this period?

I have read that it is the wet season, super busy and more expensive :( but hoping to get some more views.

Thanks!

Full of bogans alot drunker than normal. Monsoon, good surfing this time of year down in the south

    • :( even in the less busy areas like Sanur?

      • It will be busy at sanur. Its like the whole of oz will converge on bali. You will want to get a private villa in uluwatu or nusa dua with servants and enjoy peaceful bliss in your own hideaway. Any beach you go to will be busy, the roads to all the venues will be crowded with tourists trying to get to their tours. Kuta legian will be like a dirty version of cavill mall during schoolies with drunken aussies everywhere and indons taking advantage of them. Polisi will be everywhere looking out for aussies doing the wrong thing and stopping any foreigner expecting their christmas pay top up so be prepared to bribe even if you have done nothing wrong, its lawless and not a great experience.

Depends how you want to roll.

        • What about places inland like Ubud?

+1 for Nusa Dua… Especially during peak times, yes… It's more expensive, but think of it as Bogan insurance.

It'll be warm and wet where ever you choose.

That time of year? I'd give ubud a miss if you're hoping to avoid crowds.

      • Sanur is a beach full of rubbish. Go the other side (Jimbaran Bay).

  • Apparently December has an average of 22 rain days and January has 27. http://www.baliguide.com/bali-info/weather.html

But at least it doesn't get cyclones.

Full of bogans. Worse than just going down Cronulla/Frankston and having a beer at the local…

I was there Xmas 2013. As it was my first time there I wanted to do some tours, we spent more time stuck in traffic jams. It might be alright if you just want to sit in your hotel and relax, but going anywhere else is too hard.

Thanks everyone. We've decided to go somewhere local and save the Bali trip for another time!

  • Really wet when I went over Chrissie 2 years ago

  • Does it get quieter in the second half of January?
ie easy to find rooms at a days notice (or none)?
