These emails are deliberately bad, to weed out intelligent people. They only want the naive to reply.

      http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/microsoft/9346371/Nigeā€¦

"by sending an email that repels all but the most gullible the scammer gets the most promising marks to self-select."

Herley's reasoning is that scammers have to go to a lot of effort to successfully extract money from their victims. "At the interface between the digital and physical worlds effort must often be spent," he writes. "Each respondent to a Nigerian 419 [advance fee fraud] email requires a large amount of interaction…each potential target represents an investment decision."

The most profitable way to earn money through email scams, Hurley finds, is to only invest in those targets most likely to pay out, rather than maximising the number of targets "attacked". This is why 419 emails contain fabulous stories that most people find laughable - or that savvy internet users will see through with a quick search or based on their experience.

    DR. SHIT-U NOT would've been more believable…

Why do you even bother to glance at them?

hadn't had one in a while and was curious about what sort of shit they were pulling out. Also I occasionally check them out because my parents would one day get sucked in by one of these and I like to keep abreast of their methods, etc.

These are not the dangerous ones. There are some coming in these days which are fake invoices or documents which install ransomware when launched.

        • Yes, they are much more serious.

        • Got caught out with this.
Mine was 'sent' by AGL. Silly me. Especially when we are not using AGL at all. I was complacent at the time as I didn't care if my PC has to be formatted.

  • Lol I love the laugh, but seriously I think shop ones are more an issue… I had 3 on the same day from shopping express the other day O.o

Ah, good old Jimmy… Glad he's done well for himself.

  • "African/ Europe and Asia counties"

Phew…thats all right….. then its counties what a relief.

I pity you. Soon, a Nigerian Princess will send me $6,500,000. Just as soon as she receives the $1,495 fee I just sent her.

Always the same these emails. Attention of the 'Beneficiary' and they're always from someone with a title of Doctor who for some reason works in a major bank but only has a yahoo email address or similar.

If you don't want the 3.5 million can you at least give it to me?

  • +3

Well this is very professional looking, are you sure it's a scam?

  • Send me the monies.

I know Jimmy West and his brother John West. Both love phishing. One catches little fish and the other catches big fish otherwise known as fools.

  • Dear Mr Jimmy West,

Please try harder. You're stories are not very good. Are you trolling me?

    Kind regards,
    Annoyed recipient

  • I report them to Spamcop dot net who offer free MBs and then cheap subscription.
You have to report within two days of receiving.
They are aggressive in dealing with spam from the originating source.
Also, to your email server, Australian government spam sites and US phishing report sites.
I sometimes do this but it is very time-consuming.
I like to think I am helping to stop spam (when I have time to kill) and feel satisfied I am getting the b……s
I was getting many spams in Dutch but they have stopped due to Spamcop, I would think.
Can't post links here so PM me.

AND THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FROM AUSTRALIA
WHEN YOU RING TO COMPLAIN WHO GET A FOREIGH OPERATOR YET THE HQ IS NSW
    WHAT A RIP OFF

      • Oh, thanks greenpossum for that funny and uplifting comment. I laughed out loud and still amused. You are a legend.
