Hoping you could help as I am a newbie in this area.
Looking to purchase a projector and a portable screen to be used inferequently for events for our soccer club. Will also need some sort of audio set up for a presentation night event.
If we have a budget sitting at around 500-600 or so, am I in the ballpark for a decent bundle? Which ones would you recommend?
Also, is it possible/easy to connect this to free to air tv?

Forget the screen unless you don't have a suitable smooth white/cream wall to project on to.
Or DIY one with a sheet of Gyprock painted white or even a sheet.
Then you can devote your entire budget to a refurb model Projector.
Probably DLP to get the most brightness for your dollar. Keep your eye out on the Benq refurb section.
I'd recommend you look for an XGA model as a minimum, ideally a 720p widescreen model (or 1080p if you can find one for the money)

A set of 2.1 Computer Speakers ought to be OK for Audio..

I think you are going to struggle. The biggest thing is going to be finding a cheapish projector that has high brightness (ANSI). Projectors with about 1600-2000 ANSI are borderline ok for use during the daytime with closed blinds as the image will be hard to distinguish and the audience quickly loses their attention span. Take note that cheaper projectors might even have 500 ANSI or less, which is barely good enough in complete darkness.
