Experiences with ShopMate (Australia Post) ?

I was considering ordering items from Amazon/Newegg which aren't available to be delivered to Australian addresses, however I was thinking of ordering them using ShopMate…?

Anyone have experience using this service before cause I have no clue how efficient this would be? I have read the basics about this here however I would really appreciate personal experiences! :) Thanks in advance

If its anything like the useless incompetent local delivery system from the same company I would steer clear
Use a trusted freight forwarder for the best experience, plenty of them out there, just be wary some sting you a massive amount based on cubic weight not the actual items etc

Shop around, some of the other guys may know a bit more than I do but I personally wouldn't bother with Austpost nor trust them getting international right let alone local delivery

Cheaper rates compared to some of the freight forwarders out there but be wary with "hidden fees"

Also just remember unless you're saving a load on the item, I would check out the price here after you get slogged for shipping sometimes it ends up 10 bucks more expensive to shop local for the same item

read this for a better understanding and review for a 2kg package

    • Cheers for the article! Yeah it seems it probably isn't the best option..? Will need to do some research now :)

      • What are you buying from the US anyway?

IIRC ShopMate is actually provided by SingPost. Take from that what you will.

      Edit:

ShopMate is an offering of Singapore Post’s vPost product.

The ShopMate Website is a white label service owned and controlled by Singapore Post Limited. Australia Post has appointed Singapore Post Limited to perform the international freight forwarding service as part of the Services provided to you.

I have used them before. price is bit too expensive coz they repackage ur item. however the shipping time and tracking system is fantastic. its like u re using auspost. if your item is small and less than 500 grm i guess its gonna cost you around $30 from The Us to oz..

    cheers

    • Nice, tbh I really haven't had any bad experiences with Aus Post till date, however as stated above, Singapore Post does the freight forwarding so not sure about reliability..? Its good to hear from both sides in this post, I will definitely need to do some more research though. Thanks :)

      • I strongly suspect Singapore Post would be something in the order of 10 million times better than Australia Post.

Things just work in Singapore. They have a totally different mindset.

  • I can vouch for US to Oz. Cheap fees and they repack. Contact Sarah and maybe she'll give you a discount if you mention me.

    • Of course I'm only kidding on the discount part. But yeah, feel free to check their website and fb page.

Used them recently to get some exclusive items delivered that I could only get with USA address.
They were pretty quick and priced fair compared to others. I used them because of the ability to change delivery address in Australia right up until the night before delivery.

Now saying that while I was happy overall, I did have an issue with the fact that they repacked an item which did not need repacking. They charged me $5 for the privilege. In the process of repacking the item it got damaged and i ended up getting the merchant (ThinkGeek) to send another one which of course will result in another shipping fee. Getting a hold of anyone who can help is impossible. They have no support and Australia post staff have no idea.

Currently going through a quite long winded process to get them to pay to reship/forward the replacement item at their cost as I am not willing to pay given It was their fault it was damaged in the first place

  • I just used for the first time with one of the 15% off codes and everything went incredibly smooth.

    Would recommend and use again.
