Cheapest Asus Eee PC in Australia?

Okay. I think I am pretty much set out to get an ASUS Eee PC 701 with 4G SSD. The next question is — where can I find the cheapest one in Australia?

Anyone knows how much do they sell for at JB Hi-Fi? Also according to this Wikipedia entry, 701 4G retails for NT$11,655 in Taiwan (including 5% GST, which is around AUD$409) so I think the Australian retailers can do better!

Also saw on eBay here where this guy is selling a black 701 4G for $480 delivered if you pay via direct deposit.

Anywhere cheaper?

  • My old workplace used to sell coles myer shopping cards with a 5% discount to face value ie, $100 gift card was only $95. So it'll only be $463.60 if you know someone who can get you $500 worth of gift cards.

Other than that, you can always ask at Officeworks. I know that they do occassionally discount if you ask them nicely.

  • According to DailyTech, new models with 7", 8" and 8.9" displays are on the way, as well as a desktop-based Eee PC.

  • Just saw the newest JB Hifi catalog. It sells them for $496.

  • Anyone know if Hardly normal or Domayne Sells them?

Cause they will price match and I can get it on 2 year nothing to pay

  • Spotted this in the Eee PC thread at Whirlpool. $399 from RetraVision!

Anyone from Melbourne can get one for me? :)

    • Damn that was a good deal.

  • At the end I bought an almost-new one from eBay with Australian warranty for around $450 delivered + some accessories, and I have been using it for a few days.

    It's simply amazing!

I quite like it as I used to own a Psion 5mx so I am fine typing on its tiny keyboard, and its portability + a full x86 Linux system gives everything you need.

Unfortunately the new OzBargain design uses a fix-width layout that does not fit into its 800 pixel-wide screen (you get to see all the main content, but the right hand column got clipped but who cares these are ads anyway).

  • For those registered at OverClockers Australia, there's word that a few local Good Guys have these dirt cheap:

But it seems like it's only for individual stores, like the Whirlpool thread.

"Really? The JB down here at Tuggerah said i could get it for $420..And that was over the phone."

"I have seen the at goodguys for $389"
"well I have seen them instore for $389, this was last weekend in the NT. "

"cost price @ JB was infact $450, which i can say with 100% certainty that it is.."

So it pays to shop around!
