Rate this gaming desktop deal (CPU i5-6600k, RAM 8GB, Graphics Geforce GTX 1070) - $1287

Hi guys,

I've been thinking of getting a i5-6600k with Geforce 1070 for gaming. Budgeting about $2000-ish for the build + monitor, keyboard, mouse.

Found this deal on ebay:

The lack of SSD isn't a problem as I got a 250GB M.2 SSD sitting about… I assume these desktop motherboards have M.2 slots?
So do you guys think this is a good deal?
Would it be more expensive if I want something like this on a mini tower?
Can anyone come up with something better better value than this?

Cheers, really appreciate the feedback and comments.

Case looks pretty cheap, everything else looks pretty good. $1287 for that rig is a bargain imo.

Bit of a strange build. Unlocked k processor but h110 motherboard? Makes me think it's a non k processor especially since they only include a stock Intel cooler. It's OK really but I'd ask about that processor. The case looks a bit rubbish but the rest looks decent. 1200-1300 sounds about right if it is indeed a h110 Mobo and non k processor

    • Thank you nyteogen, you're right! Quite absurd that they'd pair an overclocking CPU with a non-overclockable motherboard.
The Z170 upgrade option costs an additional $125.

Unlocked k processor but h110 motherboard?

And we already have complaints of pc.crap selling 600W PSU's that are actually 220W PSU's and taking people's money but not shipping items.

The price is OK but not that special, I just built a B150 GTX 1070 system for 1100 or so (sans case and storage) but store is run by scam artists.

Unless you really cannot wait because you just want it all to arrive at once you should build yourself. Once you have done it once you'll realise that a 6 year old can do it.

  • If there is one thing I've learnt is that u can't trust the PSU they give. So whatever they give, just pretend it's not worth anyway, and get a better one. My research from pc byte is that their PSU prices, even with the 20% is more than other shops. So I suggest just take what they give u and buy a better PSU and install it urself.

For $1287, not bad. I'd trust the PSU, not a generic so should be alright.

    A similar build:

(All parts based on MSY pricing except GPU).

    CPU: i5 6600 - $305
    Motherboard: Gigabyte B150M-D3H - $125
    HDD: WD Blue 1TB - $67
    RAM: 8GB DDR4 (Kingston) - $44
    PSU: Antec VP500 - $59
    Case: Antec VSK3000B-U3 - $45
GPU: Leadtek 1070 from this deal. - $560

    Total: $1205.

Plus the fun of building yourself :).

The i5 6600 is identical to the 6600k, apart ffrom the locked multiplier (K signifies unlocked, so you're able to overclock- but you'd need a Z170 motherboard for that).

Also, not all H110 motherboards support M.2, but the H110M-A/M.2 does. The one in the eBay deal will probably be the cheapest one they can source, so no M.2 slots.

EDIT: Changed motherboard, as the B150M-D3H is about the cheapest one that supports M.2 @ Gen3 PCIe x4 (the gen 2 slot in the H110M-A would bottleneck something like a 950 Pro). Also get 4x RAM slots as opposed to two, and an extra couple of USB 3 ports which is nice to have.

    • This ^ is more or less what I built ^ …

    • Thank you mate!!

  • Get a Seasonic PSU. They're excellent.
