Air Conditioner - Daikin vs Fujitsu and and install costs

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a split-system air conditioner. The installers and other tradies I've spoken to generally recommend buying Daikin brand - they refer to them using terms like "the rolls royce of air cons". I wonder how these compare to brands like Fujitsu which I can purchase from any number of stores like Harvey Norman. Fujitsu come with a 5 year warranty which seems pretty good to me. Any comments?

I've also seen that $600 is the ballpark figure for getting on installed in Sydney. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks
E.

  • Have always heard Daikin are premium units but you sure pay extra for it.

A mate paid for Daikin units to be installed in new home and thought he could have saved alot buying less exclusive brands. They are very quiet and do well at both cooling and heating.

Have had fujistu inverters in l my house and have been faultless for over 6 years. Choice magazine give fujitsu the best (if not the best) ratings for cooling but less for heating. I live in Brisbane so it's all about effective cooling here.

I think both will serve you well based in my knowledge. The designs of the indoor unit may also be deciding factor. Panasonic units look very smart over fijitsu IMO.

Can't assist with install costs as it was too long ago.

    Best of luck

  • i am using fujitsu and mitsubishi electric in my unit, no issue at all in the last 3 years.

  • I chose a Fujitsu because the Outdoor Unit was SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than everyone else's and I only have a small yard.
It also has one of the quietest outdoor units which is important to me so as not to disturb my neighbors.
My parents have a Daikin, seems to be just as quiet as mine, so no advantage there.. You're paying for the "insurance" of a more reliable brand name.
Depends on your preference. How do you value:
    Outdoor Compressor size
Indoor Condensor size (a neighbor has a Panasonic which has a tiny condensor unit)
    Heating Efficiency
    Cooling Efficiency
Automatic De-icing (depends on your location and usage whether you need it)
    Outdoor Noise
Condensor Features (I think Fujitsu is the only brand that will swing air from side to side and up and down. The other brands can only go Up/down or Side/side)

Installation will vary drastically depending on the complexity of the installation. A simple job is around the $600 mark, but as soon as you add any complexity, prices skyrocket!

  • I have a fujitsu unit too in my house. No problems here. Very quite and efficient. I got mine installed back to back for $550 through these guys. www.unicornair.com.au Might be cheaper nowadays.
