TPG - Porting out to New Company ($10 Admin Fee)

hi all, i looking at leaving TPG mobile to Coles mobile. But TPG have mentioned that they will charge me 10$ admin costs for porting my number over.

They have stated that it's part of their TC's but I can't see anyway which states it.

http://www.tpg.com.au/terms_conditions/standard/

10.8. If you require us to send to you a printed copy of an invoice, this may be subject to an administration fee of $10.00 inc GST will apply per request.

10.10. You are responsible for ensuring there is sufficient funds/credit available in your nominated credit card or direct debit account at any time we debit the account. You must pay dishonor fees and any other charges, expenses or losses resulting from our attempting unsuccessfully to debit the credit card or direct debit account unless the failure was due to a clear error on our part. Dishonored cheques incur a $16.50 inc GST handling charge. Direct Debit rejections incur a $10.00 inc GST charge.

only part of their TC's that have any 10$ i could find.

any tips for avoiding this fee?

First rule of porting, don't talk about porting.
(best not to tell them your leaving)

    • but if i don't them i am leaving they'll keep charging me and i'll lose my number.

how can you lose your number when you've already ported it away?

        • sorry i haven't port it yet.

@godofpizza: you don't have to tell tpg anything. When you register with Coles, you will be asked if you want your number ported. Key in your number, and that's it. It's coles responsibility to notify tpg.

        • @bsmksg:

ok, but what about my bills with TPG?

          @bsmksg:

Yep but you have to notify TPG anyway, otherwise they are going to continue charging for the plan until you cancel. Once they realise that you ported the number they will charge the fee.

@Colombian: nope. That's not how it work. You DO NOT ever tell tpg you are porting out.
If you sign up with coles today, then your number will be ported today, and your contract with tpg ends today. You do not need to notify them. (think about it, once your number is ported, you no longer have a phone number witb them, which means they can't charge you for the service if they are not providing a service)

Edit: I do not use tpg. However, I have ported my line various times between optus, voda and amaysim, and I have NEVER notified my previous provider. It's the responsibility of the new provider to do that.

        • @bsmksg:

the last time i tried signing up for Jeenee Mobile and i never was able to get thru to their CS line to activate my sim.

So i gave up and ended up going to TPG with the same number. Yet Jeenee still charged me for service when it had already was activated thru TPG. So I am still thinking the TPG will bill me even when i've signed out from them. who knows there only one way to find out.

        • @bsmksg: Correct, and if they do keep on billing you, go to the TIO.

It is $11 not $10. I'm in this situation atm with them. I reported it to TIO as they want to keep the "prepayment" plus charge me $11 port out fee. TIO gave them until 4 October to resolve this issue.

    Let's see what happens.

    • mm i heard they said 10$, either if it's 11$ it doesn't appear to be on their TC as they claimed.

  • Thought you just had to give notice, and basically forfeit the 30 days prepay.

  • This seem to be an on going issue with TPG, they wait till you go to TIO before they forgo the porting fee; I wish TIO sort this out clearly with TPG. Last time they tried to keep my prepayment fee of $20.00 too (this $20 is like a deposit in case you go over your limit or what ever). Just make me think twice before ever join them again, no matter how good their deal is; don't want to waste my time and hassle to go that again!!!!!

And you don't need to tell them, just port out, they know you ported out and they charge you the $11 or whatever fee and you will see it on your credit card statement, then the fight begin…….

  • It is linked from the Terms and Conditions in a Mobile Plan Brochure.pdf

If you port your mobile service number to another carrier a port out fee of $11 is payable in addition to any other charges.

  • Glad to inform that TPG reimbursed me the Deposit and Port Out fees of both mobile services I had with them.

  • im fighting for my second time (second number) now. first time few months ago they said only prepayment will be returned. i gave up and said ok you can keep the port fee.

but now, i will insist on get both refunded. fully.

  • I just ported out to lebara last nite. Took 30mins. I haven't said anything to TPG. Just scraped in the 7 days before the next month renews too. So now I just wait until I see the charge on my statement? I was on the old TPG plan. So all I have to say to TIO is that this port out fee was not in my original T&C?

  • I got pinged with $11 port out fee too! And I don't find any mention of it in their T&Cs.
