From OzBargain to CheapCheapLah

Hi

Family (2A+2C) will be travelling to Singapore in December for a 5 night 6 day stopover before proceeding to India.
For accomodation, airport transfers and entry to attractions, I find that the Singapore Stopover Holiday or Singapore Stopover Premium is the best bet, taking into account the time saved and hassle-free option. (although hotels included in Singapore Stopover Premium are much more upmarket.)
Do you guys agree ?

The price I am getting on SingaporeAir website for 5 nights, airport transfers, and entry to 15 attractions is about SG $1900. I think thats reasonable, comparing to what we pay in Oz. Any suggestions to reduce that total even furthur will be welcome as well.

Of course, the money saved here would be spent on shopping. SWMBO has stated she'd be shopping while I take the kids to attractions :O
I can't find the right words to say it, but how can I, as a traveller, benefit from CheapCheapLah ?

Please also suggest where would you stay from the selection of hotels below :
http://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/au/plan-travel/packages/si… (Category D hotels preferred)
http://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/au/plan-travel/packages/si… (more premium & expensive selection)

Attractions included in package:

I have totaled them up for 2A+2C, and it comes to just under SG $1000 for the ones we plan to visit.

Any local tips would be welcome as well. (I know about the MRT)

Thanks for reading :)

    Hello Singh,
I'm not a local but on a recent trip, we stayed at Studio M hotel in Clarke Quay. Good hotel, and Clarke Quay has good eateries too. If you can, grab some seafood buffet dinner at Carousel in Royal Plaza Hotel. I think it was all you can eat crab and lobster (and others) for approx $70.

Also a place called Wings Bar in Clarke Quay has some pretty hot wings - it will test your chilli rating.

Hi MRT has this deal of $10-$12 for 3 days unlimited rides per person. Bugis certainly a great place to go for cheap souvenir.

    • Where do you find info on the 3 days unlimited pass?

        See here: https://www.thesingaporetouristpass.com.sg/about-the-passes/

It may be now $6.70 a day with total of $20.1 for 3 days, still better than Sydney prices :)

Given the MRT pass prices are the same for children over 3 years old, I think it's cheaper and easier to get Taxi/Uber/Grab in Singapore with a family of 4. Even though I was only with the other half we still found a lot of journeys were nearly the same price on Uber than MRT, especially short trips that require a MRT change is just not worth it, even with two people. For further trips, the MRT may be a better option though.

  • Thanks guys for your replies…
Have sorted out accomodation and hotel transfers.
Went with the Singapore Stopover Holidays package, also includes entry to few attractions.

What's next to sort out is $$$$$$ - how to carry them ?

    FOREX
Changing them here before leaving would be expensive, getting a pre-paid travel card even more so.
Have read about The Arcade, Lucky Place, Mustafa Centre etc as places to go for forex….
Only need to spend mainly on food and shopping for 2a+2c for 4D-5N.

How much do you reckon should I exchange ? Dont plan to go overboard with shopping, lol. Will keep an eye on CheapCheapLah !

    Would $2000-$2500 be enough for food/shopping ?

    MOBILE PHONE SIM
Would need a SIM with overseas calls and about 2GB data.
If I dont get overseas calls inclusion, how can I make overseas calls via data … I have MyNetFone which I use at home and app on my iPhone. Would that just 'work' over there or any settings need to be changed with MNF or the app ?

    Thanks again !:)
