Foldable Solar Panel Kit (6w Solar Panel, 5000mAh Battery, Cables and 2x Chargers) for $20 on Clearance @ Bunnings Warehouse

140

Spotted a pretty decent deal on a foldable solar panel kit at Bunnings and picked one up for myself.

There was about 10 units at the Moorabbin store and is possibly nation wide but I've never had trouble getting Bunnings to price match other stores items on clearance in the past.

The panel is advertised as being 3-6w at 5v, the battery bank as 5000mAh and comes with an AC & car charger.

It's not the greatest foldable panel, but for $20 it's a fantastic kit.

A pitty it's not 12v output or it'd be great for keeping vehicle batteries topped up when sitting unused.

    • Buy two kits and just connect them in series… but even at $20 they're still a bit too expensive to bother doing that as you can just buy a ready-to-use 12V 10W Solar Charger from Jaycar for only a little bit more: http://www.jaycar.com.au/solar-panel-charger-kit-12v-10w/p/Z… or cheaper from eBay/online such as this for $22.95 delivered: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10W-12V-MINI-SOLAR-PANEL-KIT-MONO… Neither come with the Battery Bank as per the Bunnings product though.

car battery is typically around 13.8-14.4v so you'd probably need 3 of these connected in series to keep it topped up.

        • Not necessarily. It all depends on how the 6V panel is spec'd. Most '12V' panels are designed to output 17V or higher at full sun. The '6V' panels I've used have usually reached or exceeded 8-9V.

Sweet. Now you can keep your phone charged while out and about playing Pokemon Go. Just strap the solar panels to your head like a hat and off you go.

price matching on clearance items is a bit of hit and miss

sometimes staff are willing to help you and sometimes they say they can't

does anyone have any tips to make staff obliged to price match a clearance item at bunnings?

i keep getting turned away at bunnings store even when i show them the image of the discounted item and a receipt

    • Use manners, ask, don't demand.

It just be your attitude as I rarely have a problem getting them to match or even better the price. I got another $20 off the parcel postbox I purchased by being nice and not making a big deal out of photos of the item being discounted.

guys please don't be quick to judge
the last time i went to a staff i said "hi, I was wondering if you were able to price match an item you have in stock"?
they respond "yeah we'll take a look at it" but later on say sorry we can't because the bunnings here is independantly operated and we will only price match clearance items if we have low stock

      it sounds dodgy

anybody have other tips? i am as nice as a person can get

      • We have one Bunnings near here where they are notorious for not price matching. They will find any excuse not to. Another one a couple of suburbs away price match with ease.
It is not necessarily how you ask… it can be the local store policy too…

  • Is the battery NiMH or Lithium?

    • Is the battery NiMH or Lithium?

If you looked at the image you can see it's lithium polymer.

  • Could these be used to power outdoor lights?

    • if the lights are 5V, then most likely yes.

  • All gone in the Moorabbin store!

  • OP, are you able to share the Bunnings product code for this item please? The guys at the Artarmon store is unable to find the item in their system based on the product name.
