Cutting off a bus

Hey Guys,

My wife cut off a bus yesterday and i saw in the mirror he was writing something down. I think it was our rego.

I noticed there was video camera in the front of the bus and was wondering can they send the footage to the police.

Buses would get cut off a million times a day. Unless your wife did something outrageously dangerous or unwarranted (eg abused the driver or cause him to slam on his brakes and hurt passengers) I can't imagine they'd bother doing anything.

I guess the easiest solution is to stop cutting off buses?

Whoa, let's not get crazy here. Surely there are other options? You start with not cutting off buses, then before too long you're suggesting we stop cutting off ambulances carrying dying patients and fire trucks on their way to suburban inferno's… the line has to be drawn somewhere

How did you see in the mirror. Isnt that for the driver to use?

  • I meant that mirror in front of you. The thing you put down from the sun. Nah caused no harm but i did tell her off. I did notice he was speeding as my wife started hitting 70 and in the 60 zone and he was still pushing.

I noticed he was writing somthing down on a paper book when we stopped on the lights.

I just wasnt sure if they actually ise the footage for these kind of inidents or only for accdents.

99% sure if all your wife did was cut him off he won't do anything. Not worth their effort. Buses get cut off (and cut people off) multiple times a minute.

Although maybe he's compiling footage for a hilarious YouTube video or an ACA story…

  • If there was no accident resulted from the cut off directly or indirectly there is nothing to worry about. Unless she was driving dangerously/recklessly.

  • It happens. I've been flipped off from bus drivers after they've cut me off without indicating long enough and/or without a give way sign on the bus.

You should question why your wife was going 70 in a 60 zone. When you drive, you can only control yourself. If the bus was pushing it, it doesn't mean your wife should push it as well. Buses will stop eventually and there will be a safer time for your wife to go pass.

In short, your wife wanted to go faster because the bus was going faster, so she's and idiot.

    • I concur. Naughty naughty.

The bus driver can snitch on you and would also have video evidence too.

  • you may need to explain further what you mean by 'cut off a bus'

anyway… generally, you must give way to the bus: https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/road-r…

    • Wasnt any bus lane.

We were just merging onto a main road and he was going straight on that road

      • you merged…. so explain exactly what you did wrong?
did you not merge at speed, so the bus had to apply excessive brakes?

  • So we merged into the main street and hit 60 km pretty quickly and we saw him gain and putting the high beam.

  • Make sense.

Being a bus commuter, I've seen the bus driver record number plates of people before. This has been because the bus has had to brake suddenly, someone has fallen over on the bus, and they need to know whose insurance to contact in the case of that person suing state transit

  • THey probably record all incidents like that so they can look at footage. It is also possible that they will record incidents and if it is a one off let it go (we all make mistakes), but if it is a repeat offender take it to the police. Once is a mistake, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern.

  • Why don't you drive next time?
