    PLEASE don't skimp on tyres

Over the 50000k's (or insert your number here) that they are on your car, they are FUNDAMENTAL to handling, safety etc…etc…

DO NOT buy no-name Chinese sh&&

    You WILL regret it

Are there any buy 3 get 4th free deals on at the moment?

    PLEASE get decent tyres

    • Those Bridgestone ones are $300+ each and $100 CashBack if Buy 4 ($1100+ after promotion)

  • From that list, the Kumho's are easily the standout cause they're a "Brand Name" tyre.
As above, don't skimp on tyres, they're a bargain already per kilometre!

    • I understood, that's why Im asking for a budget tyre (must be safe, not those cheap risky tyre)

  • When I got my first car (still current) I tried buying budget tyres once the original set were worn out.
I immediately noticed the reduced traction in rainy conditions when approaching traffic lights which turned orange and needed sudden braking.

As above. Don't risk damage, injury, death to save even $100 on budget tyres.

  • $1000 for 4 good quality tyres, fitted, balanced and good to go for 50000k's or more……that a f*****g bargain

    trying to save $300, that's f*****g stupid

I am NOT having a go at the OP, just the mentality of saving say $300 over 50000k's (that's 0.6c per km or $0.006 per km) - seriously……??????

    get some decent tyres…. PLEASE

  • Lol! No name "performance" tyres. If that's all you got on the list get the kumho

  • Out of the list I would go the KU39. Highly rated tyre for the price. It's basically above "OEM" spec/mid range tyres.

There is a heap of passion in any discussion about tyres. It is one of those things (like private health insurance!) that people are unable to discuss in terms of value.
Instead you get the whole "if it only saves you once a year, it is a good year" FUD.

This press release copy and pasted to the WA RAC blog (which is really disgraceful, BTW. The RAC should be ashamed) suggests Choice has done comparative tyre safety testing, and that results do not align exactly with price.
    http://blog.rac.com.au/2015/09/the-danger-of-budget-car-tyre…

    The tests are here:
    https://www.choice.com.au/transport/cars/tyres

I'm not a Choice member, but it might be worthwhile for you to join to get some less passionate opinions. There also appears to be an option to get just the article you want for $5.

For interest's sake, here is a UK test comparing tyres where the results can be seen. Again, cost did not align exactly with performance, although higher pricing did give generally better results.

  • I managed to get 4 new and fitted Bridgestone Ecopia's for $450 fitted on a small car. What size tyre do you need and what car are they going on?

    • op says 235 35 19

car i would guess a wrx, considering the oem rim is 17" and type profile 45.

  • KU31s

  • Avoid Minerva's. Had them before and 2 out of the 4 tyres had large chunks of rubber delaminated from the tyres. Also used HiFly, which are not bad most of the time but they are hopeless when the temperature drops to around zero. Can't comment on the others but I will pick the Kumhos among the lot that you have listed.

  • Blue streak tyres aren't bad. My local tyre shop told me that they were parallel imports of Bridgestones or dunlops (I can't remember) and named differently. I've rolled around on blue streak tyres and they have outperformed my other brand name ones in the past.

  • You should be able to get a Pirelli Cinturato for $179 at KMart Tyre & Auto

If you really want to save money chuck away your oversized rims and get some more reasonable sized rims with a higher profile tyre. 35 series are too low profile to provide good handling with a cheap tyre.

I have the KU39 fitted and would definitely buy them again. I'm quite sure they placed 3rd in a Tyre comparison done by Wheels a few years ago. I would say they are just as good as the OEM Potenza RE050 which were on my car previously.

  • I got my 4 x Continental ContiComfortContact5 tyres for $320 fitted (ie. $80/tyre). Definitely a step up from the previous Michelin XM-5 I had. Shop around - you'd be surprised how much margin are in tyres. My tyre size is 205/65/15 so it's probably a super common size, hence the price.

    • @takamine
That is a really good price for a 205/65/15 good brand tyre. Can I ask you where you bought them? Was it on special?

      • Went to Kmart Tyre and Auto. Got them to price beat JAX who were running a buy 3 get 1 free on the Conti's

  • Kumhoe is the cheapest tyre I use and even those I find not great in the wet.
