Visiting USA for 10 days

Hi All,

I am planning to visit the USA in next few weeks but not sure what to do there and what to visit. I will be travelling alone.

I am planning to go to Las Vegas and New York. Any suggestion would be great.

Thank you,
Sanchit

Really depends on what you are interested in? Where are you flying to/from?

Unless you are looking to go to the theme parks, I would try to avoid LA and head to San Fran. Pretty nice this time of year, but can get a little windy/chilly.

  • flying from Melb. not interested in anything especially - I just wanna roam around and see the country

Dakotas have some amazing historical significance and scenic lands. Also have monuments like Mt Rushmore, crazy horse, devils Tower, Yellowstone national Park, etc.
There is also deawood South Dakota, which has bison museum and wild bill Hickock grave, plus more, and Sturgis not far away!
You can head to Appalachian territory and visit alcoholic distilleries and dtours, etc.
Man so much to do yu need to pick some interests as 10 days really is just not enough. Such a short time trying to fit a lot in you may lose a lot of time at airports, etc!
If planning on a rental car, visit ibookacar.com and the like, will save you close, if not more than 50% compared to direct with rental car company.

  • As previous poster said, and if you can say, what are your interests? Do have u have a draft itinary? Food, scenary, history etc etc!

  • I'm originally from Connecticut (Oz ex-pat for six years). If you're going to New York you can take a cheap Metro North Train from Grand Central station to New Haven, CT (about an hour and a half). Downtown New Haven is really beautiful (the Yale University campus is there), and if you're going in the next few weeks it will be in the middle of Fall and New England in the fall is a must see. Enjoy your trip!

    • New Haven, CT is also the birthplace of the hamburger, Louis' Lunch, so that's a must stop. If you love pizza you've got three places which are consistently ranked as the best in America, Pepe's, Sally's and Modern. If you only have time for one, head to Pepe's (although Frank Sinatra reportedly preferred Sally's).

    • We lived in Manassas (Virginia) for a couple of years, and found the train from New York to Washington DC to be cheap and fast.

      Lots to see in Washington.

  • Go to Idaho, get some potatoes.
Then go to Virginia and make some moonshine.

  • should there be a sticky thread for travel to USA? Coz seems like every now and then someone will ask the exact same question. The thread could cover attractions in every location, insurance, mobile phone tips, food, transport, etc.

New York needs at least four days of your ten, IMO. Sounds like a pretty rushed trip!

  • I want to cover two to three cities only and may be a train ride between them, I can extend 10 to 15 days. Except NY which city should I visit? I am thinking about San Francisco and Las Vegas.

    • I've taken the bus from NYC to Washington DC before and it was great - less security, from city to city and free WIFI.
