Need Somebody to Enlighten me on Grey Importing a Smartphone

Hey Guys,

I am so new to Sydney and I need an android phone. I have been looking for some and decided to get a grey import from china. Do you guys know how should i get it for example from jd.com i mean directly from China ? Not like Kogan. Is there any limitation at aussie customs ? I couldnt find any info so Hoping you guys can shed some light on the grey import.

Note: I dont care about warranty etc. I am gonna take the risk and buy the phone if customs allow me to.

Cheers

I think I found what i was looking for.

For goods that are worth equal to or under AUD1,000, there are no duties, taxes or charges to pay.

customs don't really have any restriction, I'm a bit wary of the seller than customs actually :|

    • Haha, yes I will consider it after understanding the custom rules.

      • the AUD 1000 rule isn't really enforced strictly from what I know, sellers usually mark it down. I recently looked at a $2000 quadcopter that they said they'll mark down for $150 lol ;) I guess customs doesn't have enough time to go through all the parcels

For something so expensive is it worth the risk?

he might just be importing a sub 200 Xiaomi etc?

If you buy it from Kogan they offer 12 months warranty, buying it from jd.com might not offer this luxury.

I have used eglobal and imported a s7 edge 935FD via DHL
    Painless
    Wasn't an issue in customers
as long as the paperwork is done (most important for lithium batteries) and correct declarations, customs won't be an issue

    • Can you expand what paperwork please, I really dont know anything about it?

        Declaring prices properly
        Lithium battery declaration
dhl did this for me anyway

        • Ah okay did you like reminded them to declare it ? if I use jd.com what should I say to them ?

          @takobaba:

          They will automatically do this

You shouldn't need to do anything further after purchase (:

  • Buy from eBay and pay by PayPal, transaction funded from your credit card.

This should be the safest way to buy a smartphone from dropshipper/OS seller.
