Modem Advice

So my parents still use modem that was left when we all left the house, a old around 8-10 year wireless modem router.

They now experience intermittent cuts of Internet and reconnections randomly on a device (whilst another device may be working at the same time). I figured it's probably the modem/routers fault and it's time for a new one.

So usage is, zero computers, two iPads and 1 smart phone. But at anyone time only two devices will be on the net. The net is used mostly for streaming from one device azn videos.
The house isn't very big, so distance from modem to where devices is used is max 2 rooms apart.

They really don't care about anything else and no other usage situations.

Is a cheap modem something that will work fine?

Something like this.

  • Yeah that would work. TPlink is okay

  • You mention streaming videos 2 room away, might not be too reliable on a N150 (The intermittent cut off might be streaming issues rather then modem problem?). If the modem part still working well you can switch off the wireless, put same money for a better wireless router instead of modem/router combo.

    • The intermittent issue occurs whilst playing low bandwidth games like hearthstone or just whilst browsing any website. I am not very technical but my sense is the device is the issue, but can't tell if it's the modem or router aspect.

Thankfully the latest good guys deal meant I got a modem/router pretty cheap, so hopefully that solves the problem.

Thanks for taking the time to reply though :)
