Am I Entitled to a Replacement on A Tempered Glass Screen Protector?

Hi,

I don't want to reveal details so the store will be referred to as 'STORE'.

Approximately 11 weeks ago I bought a tempered glass screen protector and applied it to my phone 9 weeks ago. About 3 weeks ago I noticed that there was a crack on the protector. I've been in contact with the STORE and they said it was probably due to coins and keys (I always keep my phone by itself in a pocket). They've said they will not give me a replacement or refund, but have agreed to a discount of 10%. That's approximately $2. Am I entitled to a refund or replacement? What do you think?

Cheers,
Bobby

EDIT: Jeez, looks like I was off my rocker. After reading and replying to the comments I've now understood that the glass worked like it was supposed to and I should get cheaper protectors next time. Thanks for all the feedback!

Its sad and I feel for you. It was a $20 screen protector, so not cheap and yeah it would have been nice to last longer, but they are glass, a tiny chip on the side from day to day use can result in what you're seeing! I've been through my fair share of them. My current one is about to give up the ghost, its starting to chip around the edge.

Its like drinking glasses, sometimes you drop one and they bounce, other times you look at them sideways and they crack! Glass Screen protectors are the same.

  • I have cracked a couple of screen protectors without noticing so I guess they are a bit more fragile that what sellers would have you beleive. Get onto ebay and buy a few as 20 is way too overpriced.

    • Yep, I guess that's what happened. I thought I received a defective one because it was so fragile. Didn't realise most or all protectors are like this. Yup, I reckon buying cheaper ones is better.

  • This isn't going to appear particularly informed, however, are tempered glass screen protectors in actuality a glass product (I.E; a thin sheet of glass?) I'm unsure, as sometimes products are given monikers or labels which might not be that accurate.

But, I'll assume that it is glass and go out on a limb and say that given glass cracks along stress points it would seem that the product has succumbed in a normal manner. Is that a fair consideration? If you'd applied a plastic screen protector, then possibly that pressure, which caused the failure would have been transferred to the screen of the phone (and you potentially none the wiser) rather than in the instance of a glass product where it just cracks.

To me, it seems like it's the kind of product designed to give rather than transfer pressure to the screen that it's applied to, but of course I could be totally wrong.

$2 and $20 are no different, i always buy the cheaper ones and replace it every 2 months

  • My $2 tempered glass is still rocking in my iPhone5.

  • Just my 2cents here.
I bought a $5 protector from oz ebay seller, claimed to be NuGlass, it fit the phone perfectly, but have multiple chips along the edges within a 3 days. I ended up peeled it off as it looks horrible and with the chips grow bigger, I think it might give my fingers paper-cuts.
Then bought one around a dollar later, it fits the phone but leaves slightly gaps to the end of screen, this one still running with just 2 small chips on it after half a year.

  • I bought a pair of brand new shoes. They got dirty in a few weeks even though I tried my hardest to keep them clean. Can I get a refund from the store?

    • You know this isn't the same thing.
You would also know that I've understood that I'm not entitled to a refund if you read the OP.

  • Hmm.. I will add my 2 cents worth here

One of the brands we sell offer 2 year warranty and we've had some dodgy returns but the manufacture didn't care

Another reputable brand had a whole bunch cracking, which suggest it was a manufactures design issue

    They took it all back

  • This is like trying to return a used condom because it broke after you used it, even though it still accomplished the job while it was in the middle of being used.
