A Warning to People Buying and Selling Velocity Points

A warning to anyone looking to buy or sell Velocity points using the 'family transfer' scheme, a recent article on AUSBT suggests that Virgin is now cracking down on this in a big way (and in some cases, it sounds like they've cast their net back several years): http://www.ausbt.com.au/velocity-accounts-being-suspended-du…

As discussed in other threads, Qantas also appears to have been recently cracking down on dodgy family transfer transactions.

While points selling is still rife here, it's really not worth the risk, in my opinion.

    ——A spokesperson for Velocity Frequent Flyer asserted that there has been no sudden crackdown on questionable points transfers, but rather that the company was continuing its diligence in monitoring points transfers “to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions.”

    There's always a risk when it comes to selling/transferring points but im not sure if ~two dozen shut downs is a big crack down…

    • I think you've missed the point. The article is not suggesting only 2 dozen people have been targeted, rather AUSBT has been contacted by over two dozen impacted people. This suggests the crackdown is significant.

      Typical PR crap.

        Exactly - like the high profile stories on news.com.au about people RAMPANTLY stealing from self serve checkouts… a scare campaign press release is the easiest and cheapest way to handle this sort of stuff

  • Is it so bad if your account is suspended after selling all your points and you don't normally fly with the airline anyway?

    • +1

      It's bad for people who do fly and buy points to do upgrades

    • +2

      I suppose it is very bad if your account is suspended after buying a whole lot of points for cash and you lose them all!

    maybe title should be velocity and QFF.
    and warning for the buyers (most of the case sellers are fine or not severely affected)

    Hmm… OzB was mentioned too.

  • +2

    You own the points why should you be able to do this?

    • you technically don't own anything as the account is owned by Virgin as governed by the terms and conditions

      • Poor corporate sucker.

        • +3

          not really, just common sense
          neg away idiots

          Virgin own the program, they can dictate what they want to do with people who sell points / illegally use features

        • -2

          @shawncro 222: > illegally

          T&C is not law.
          Law > T&C

        • @fruit:

          this is true
          however they can cancel / terminate / delete accounts at will
          Law won't do shit in that case will it smart ass

        • @shawncro 222: shakes head Of course you can sue them for that. They destroyed something of value that you own.

        • +2

          @fruit:
          Good luck if you agreed to T&Cs that clearly said what was and wasn't allowed.

        • +1

          @fruit: Law = Law
          You participate in the program and agree to terms and conditions. This is a contract.
          Good luck suing them for ?? for abiding by the terms of the contract you agreed to.

  • The more people get banned, the better so more reward seats for legit points collectors.
