Scale for measuring mgs (to the 0.01g at least)

Need an accurate scale for measuring miniature stuff, milligram stuff.

Cheap but also accurate.

    haha not suss at all….

I don't think it is because I use a highly accurate digital scale to measure how much to feed my dog.

Too much heroin and he goes mental all night.

    • Could be a saffron reseller

  • surely to the nearest point is close enough ;)

If you're trying to weigh something into 0.1g amounts then using a scale with 1 decimal point precision leaves a margin of error of 0.9999999~ grams which is hardly a good way to weigh out crystal methamphetamine for the cat.

      • yes, sorry, my bad

      • .04999~ as it will round to the nearest 0.1g.

  • look for shooting reloading scales from online or local gun stores.

    • The digital ones in my experiences aren't great in the lower price point, however if OP is willing to convert grains to gram a lee precision pivo tscal ewould work well.

      • Agree cheap are generally not accurate and I should have mentioned that before!

        • yeah and OP requested cheap.
Nothing worse than a scale being over a grain out (its happened). I distrust any digital scale for fine measurements that aren't lab grade.

      That link no worky!

  • just search "digital scales 0.01" or even "digital scales 0.001" on ebay

  • Really all you need is something that costs 20 bucks that you can buy from eBay, Amazon, Aliexpress etc. Electronic scales are a very simple technology that is easy to manufacture accurately enough for very accurate weighing of 0.01g amounts. Ensure it allows calibration.

Since we are going to calibrate the scales you will also need a calibration weight which are also very cheap. I'd suggest getting 1g and something lower if possible. The ideal is to have 2 calibration weights higher and lower than what you want to weigh but 1 weight in the neighbourhood of what you wish to weight is good enough for many situations.

Calibrate the scales when you recieve them according to the instructions. This is required for all scales regardless of quality because the earth's gravitational field varies across the earth and according to height of your location.

Check the scales with the calibration weights periodically by simply weighing them again and calibrate again if needed - but as i said, electronic scales are not a complicated technology anymore, they're a commodity item and usually they keep accuracy well.

You would usually want scales that will measure an order of magnitude lower than what you want to measure. So if you are measuring out 0.1g you want a scale accurate to 0.01g etc.
A milligram scale measures 0.001g, and if you really want to go down to 0.0001g for accuracy, be prepared to buy some proper lab equipment.
A scale for 0.01g however are freely available from eBay and most will ship from China. If you are desperate enough these are also sold at most pawn shops for 10x the price. Many come with a calibration weight, but you should also try to attain an ACCURATE calibration weight.

And there are plenty of things that OP might want to weigh that aren't drugs, but yeah the request is pretty suss.

*source- I did part of a chemistry degree

  • Jaycar sell a 100g Mini Pocket Scale ($49.95). Accuracy to .01g. We sell a lot of them to people from, erm, let's say "out of towners".
