Lookin' for a Small Torch (from a Bricks 'n' Mortar Store)

Yo 'bargainers

I'm helping out with a show (Hairspray, come see us! [Melbourne, eastern suburbs]). Anyway, I'm gonna be around backstage, and I need a small torch so I can actually see what I'm doing, but everything I've got is either too big (will be using it single-handed [or less ;P]) or too bright (or both!).
I've left it 'til I've only got one week, so likely won't be able to get it shipped in, so looking for a cheap one I can pick up from a physical store that's not absolutely rubbish, so if you've got any suggestions that'd be great, thanks.

  • I would get something with a Cree emitter, shop around Jaycar and you might find one.

eBay is also possible - just buy from a seller that is based in your state.

For hands-free torching consider getting a head lamp (head torch). http://www.jaycar.com.au/ultra-bright-cob-head-torch/p/ST321…

  • Kmart & SCA both have a wide range of cheapies to suit…

Good call on not going super bright too, as soon as it's off your night vision is gone! ;)

  • How about a head lamp torch that has a red led feature?

I've seen most camping stores have something like that, where they have a full brightness, dimmer and dim and then red LED for night vision.

I have one of these torches that i use daily.

Its small and easy to handle.
The light isnt flaired its a perfect circular spot…. i pocked mine up about 3 years ago and still kicking along.

  • I'm not a torch fanatic like many on here. But I needed a cheap, solid, portable torch quickly and the one at K-mart was perfect for my needs. It's the width of one man-hand and only $3. http://www.kmart.com.au/product/led-aluminium-torch---red/74…

The bouncy button is on the rear-end of the torch so you look and feel like a CSI investigator when turning it on. And it comes with batteries (there's a plastic circular sleeve inside that prevents the torch batteries being drained accidentally during shipping).

But if you need your hands free you may as well get a cheap head torch or some other wearable. K-mart also has a $4 head torch in the camping section but I can't vouch for its quality (http://www.kmart.com.au/product/led-headlight/535301). The plasticky build quality didn't look nearly as good as the metal torch and it's rather bulky.
