        • Yeah same deal. I explicitly asked "will this be usable to purchase Forza Horizon 3 download code?" to which the answer was a definite "yes that will work, no problem". Next operator pretty much gave me a "too freakin bad" but at least refunded the VIP code (which the previous operator said was impossible).

It's funny how each staff member is trained in completely different ways.

        • @omgitzrick:

I have a feeling that their customer support has no idea. Technically they can't refund the VIP code because the code has already been sent and I doubt they will contact Microsoft to revoke the code. I know they are willing to do a full refund (as it was done in my case) as I think they are willing to write it off as a loss. It's probably better for them to give you your US$15 back than give you a US$20 card (even though it looks like you can't buy anything digital with it, which is pretty much useless for us not in the US).

Unless people can get them to honour the original sale price, I think it is better to ask for a refund than a gift card.

        • @Siuto:
No go I tried with customer rep and they are standing firm, no refund on original purchase

So I will be looking to sell for same face value as I paid the VIP code which was roughly AUD$20 (which is still a $10 saving from AUS store).

        • @DanielR:

I guess it's probably less of a hassle by selling the code to recuperate your costs.

But I'm thinking, looking at our collective knowledge here, if you contact them enough times you will probably be able to get someone to refund you. Also, you could make the following points to their customer support:

          1. It is unreasonable for them to give you a gift card which you cannot use on the original purchase (or any digital purchase for that matter)

          2. You can contact your bank or PayPal to get them to reverse the charge.

I'm starting to think in terms of consumer protection in Australia, we probably have it better than other countries.

  • +1

As I have commented previously in this post I'll provide a final update on my experience. Received a refund for the VIP code and with conversions only was 23 cents worse off. Don't know if the delivered code would still work (although I suspect it would) but overall no great loss. Well done those that managed to get in early enough, and thanks OP for the post.

    • I'm pretty sure the code will work (as one of the previous commenter mentioned that he was told that he can keep the code) and I seriously doubt they will make extra work for themselves by contacting Microsoft to revoke all the codes.

Maybe it's a little morally questionable to suggest to sell the code on eBay or something but you can also use it yourself so if you do decide to get the base game later on then you will have a free VIP pass. The pass is worth $30 on the Aussie MS store.

      • Correct or if anyone wants to purchase mine for $20, just looking to get my money back on it (and also $10 saving from AUS store)

  • For what it's worth, when I got my refund they said I could keep the code.

  • I cancelled my order (using the link provided on the order confirmation) before it was sent but it still says pending in my bank account. Will I receive a my money back?

    • If they haven't accepted the order completely (i.e process and deliver) their system should accept your cancellation. The pending, unfortunately, takes longer to clear given that it is an international transaction, like when you use pay pass method but roughly a few days or so longer depending on the bank.

  • What a mess - after four phone calls - end state is a VIP code that doesn't work, and everything refunded.

Nothing lost apart from my time though.

    • What makes you say the VIP code doesn't work?

      • Actually I stand corrected - the code does seem to work (they had already issued the card). Now just to find a cheap way to get the original game :-)
