Bought Furniture and Cancelled Before Delivery - Only Offered Credit Note

Hi all,

I ordered 4 items from a furniture store and on the following day decided that I would like to cancel one item as I had a change of mind. Called the store and the salesperson said they can only offer store credit as opposed to a refund (This was prior to delivery of the goods) . Is this correct or am I entitled to my money back?

I took delivery of the remaining 3 items.

EDIT : I paid with Credit Card was wondering if I could just do a chargeback for that item.

  • Change of mind = retailer not legally obligated to refund/exchange, if they do its out of goodwill. You're lucky to receive store credit because they didnt have to do that.

    • Okay. Good to know. Not too fussed about it. Just couldn't be fussed trying to find $1000 dollars worth of furniture again.

Thought I had a chance seeing as I didn't take delivery of the goods yet.

Guess Ill just have to make some impulse buys.

  • Change of mind only works if you actually already took receipt of the item after the order. If i was in your situation and they refused a refund, i would just cancel the whole order and ask for a refund for the entire amount, say you are unhappy with their service, and say you are going to shop elsewhere. if they refuse do a full refund. You cannot do a partial charge back, but you can charge back the entire transaction.

    • Too late to cancel the whole order now i suppose. I already took delivery of 3 out of the 4 items.

Yeah I thought that the change of mind thing regarding the retailer not legally obligated to refund/exchange only applied if I took receipt of the items.
