Booking a Cruise

Hi,
I know its cruise sales month and i lined up a deal to go on a royal carribean over the weekend and when i went to book it the cut the included bonus from 300 to 100…. the cruise leaves on the 25th of january and my agent said it was pretty empty so i was wondering if any one could advise what promos are down the line for royal and celebrity later this month and approximately how far in advance they release garenteed cabins… also any travel websites as currently i use cruise1st, cruiseabout, kogan and ozcruising
cheers

ps if anyone has any working promo codes for royal or celebrity cruises that would be great too

  • Booking in advance rarely offers an saving. They offer do sales every second day but rarely are they worth pulling the trigger on. Best time to buy in 3-4 weeks prior to the cruise, just make sure its not during peak perior where the cruise would already be sold out and you should be fine. This is a gamble as you may end up with nothing but it saves the most cash. I like the cruisesalefinder website best

    • i thought cruise sale finder and kogan were run by the same company… their websites are almost identical

  • I booked about a week ago a guaranteed cabin and received an assignment yesterday with RCI. The is about 4 weeks off. The feb cruises are cheap. Esp the Valentine's Day ones….. Last year I got a 10 day RCI balcony guarantee for 14 feb for $750 pp twin share. This was in mid - late jam. The kids are back at school so maybe that has something to do with it. Ovations arrival is prompting a lot of cruisers to book that one. On that feb cruise, it was cruise only. No OBC or prepaid grats. If you book a guarantee cabin, ensure you ARE getting the OBC, not every travel agent passes it on for guarantee cabins.

    • Sorry to ask silly questions but what is RCI, and OBC? Where is your cruise going? I've never gone on a cruise before and am considering it as a honeymoon option…

      • OBC - On-board-credit
        RCI - Royal Caribbean ?International?

        • Thanks :)

      • Also if you are planning on making it your honey moon i would recomend celebrity if you have the budget

      • +1

FYI…. We took our first cruise and I want to share two lessons with you

        1. If you want more then juices or flavored waters to drink you will be paying about $5.00 -$14.00 per drink. A free drink package comes in handy if you want to drink till you drop. Drink packages run about 60-85 AU per person per night to get all you can drink. So unless you can justify purchasing one don't. None of the cruise lines makes it easy to find this information out.

        2. Most cruise lines automatically add a daily gratuity of about 15% to 20% per day to your account for cleaning your room and other excuses. Some will allow you to request to have it removed after the cruise but no guarantee on that - have to ask at the cruise info desk to find out when your onboard. So in this case having OBC is helpful in case they will not remove the gratuity.

        3. OBC can also help cover any drinks (coke, premium coffee, alcohols) if you do not have a beverage package.

just a few FYI's for new cruisers.

        • Thank you :-)

  • I also would like to say thank you ,
    I knew about the gratuity
but never had heard of the beverage package,
finding that pricing a bit excessive
    85.00 p.p . per night

    • if you want a beverage package i think it might be worth looking at celebrity over royal as they frequently include it with ocean view cabins

  • thank you - another point worth considering :)

  • i been on few cruises, i did this by mistake the first time, but everytime i buy duty free asap at a port stop, then arrive back on boat with 1 min to spare. the staff then say all the duty free confiscating staff have gone, so just take to room….

    bring ur own coke
