Aldi Potting mix vs Aldi lawn top dressing

Last Wednesday (28 Sept) Aldi got the Premium Potting Mix 22L @ $3.99 and I bought a few bags of it. Some stall still have stock of it and this Saturday Aldi got the Lawn Top Dressing 25L @$4.99

The potting mix seems to be a better buy as its cheaper. I am planing to use to to level my yard slightly and replant the grass and create a area to plant flowers, hedges and corner vege patch. Is the Lawn Top any good, or should I just go grab more of the potting mix that is cheaper?

You should consider getting garden soil from a landscape supplier, It will be considerably cheaper for the quantity.

Quick google is $58 for a cubic metre (1000L) from ANL landscape supplies in NSW, there will be a delivery charge if you/mate doesn't have a trailer to pick it up. Even so it will be cheaper than buying multiple bags from aldi/bunnings/masters/etc

    • Thanks for the tip. Not sure about Landscape suppliers, but I did check with bunnings and some of the nurseries nearby and they are more expensive. I am not sure how much I need, maybe dont need 1000l, maybe just 500. Delivery charges would probably make it more expensive.

      • they sell it in the 1/4, or 1/2 or entire meter… Buy what you require. Buy 1/4 or buy 5 meters!

  • I am not sure how much I need, maybe dont need 1000l

    1cbm should cover about 10m2 @ 100mm. 50mm should give you ~20m2

  • Consider this tactic for your vege and flower patches

don't be fooled by the name nor claims by paleo diet supporters who suggest this is great on salad.

    • from experience?

    • Not a fan of paleo as I like my Big Mac and KFC

  • Side note, I dont have a lawn mover so is it ok to use something like a Ryobi line trimmer to cut the grass is the yard is not really that big.

    • yes.
