Is it worth visiting sydney for extended warranty on the surface book

I recently received the surface book as a gift. I'm sort of obsessed with extended warranties so I started looking into getting one myself. Turns out the only way to get it is to take the laptop into a surface store in Sydney ( I don't live in Sydney) within 45 days to purchase the warranty. Is it worth traveling to Sydney just to get a year of extended warranty for $200+. Ive been told that a year of warranty is sufficient to determine if anything is wrong with an item but Ive had laptops fail on me at 13 month and I'm a bit skeptical. Although it seems like a lot of effort (+ costly). Any Advise ?

  • It depends on how far you have to travel. $200+ travel sounds a little to much hassle.

sort of obsessed with extended warranties

Forget about any warranty: ACL is going to give you a very generous time period in which they'll make whomever you bought it replace or repair it given that it's one of the most expensive notebooks.

Warranty is covering you for nothing due to ACL.

    • Agree with this statement 100%, OP would benefit from watching this video:

Basically the video sums thst under the Australian consumer law, a reasonable consumer can return a product if it breaks within a reasonable time frame regardless of manufacturing warranty. This is great for consumers, as the law is usually on your side.

Last time I checked a laptop is covered for two years.

  • Definitely no need to pay for an extended warranty due to ACL as per the previous statements.

    extended warranty is a scam

  • How does fair trading enforce statutory warranty when retailer/manufacturer refuse to comply?
Pretty sure they can't and it's upto consumer to lodge a complaint attached with a filing fee and then go to court
