Looking for a 50 Inch TV for ~ $1000. Opinions Would Be Greatly Appreciated

Hey guys sorry to post a question that probably gets posted weekly but I'm buying a Television for my oldies and am really having trouble trying to get my head around specs and what not. Been looking around for a TV for about $1000. Doesn't have to necessarily be a Smart TV (I actually think my mother prefers a Dumb TV as she calls it) or 4K (since they dont watch 4k media) just trying to find something with the standard features (Full HD, HDMI inputs, Digital Tuner, etc) at a size of around 50 inch - 60 inch and the nicest picture quality for our money.

I've found a few and wanted to get some opinions on the brand and picture quality since I've only ever owned Samsung (nice but pricey) and Soniq (kind of want to avoid)

LG 55"(139cm) FHD LED LCD TV

What about the Bauhn from Aldi?

    • thanks for commenting! I've actually seen that post and was considering although I've had problems with a Soniq 4kTV before with gaming and noticeable lag from the upscaling. Another problem I had was that TV shows on the digital tuner tended to have the audio out of sync with the video. Have you had experience with this model?

      • You'll have 60 days to decide if you like it or not…Aldi have actually gotten better with their NQA returns too, the last few I've done have surprisingly had zero whinging! :)

        • Yup. Agree on this

      • No but seriously considering getting one. Apparently they have a Samsung panel, and it has had good PQ and upscaling reviews on here, Whirlpool and Gizmodo. As a bonus, some gamers have reported that it has next to zero input lag (< 20ms) - someone even mentioning that it feels like a gaming monitor. Not sure about the audio sync but I couldn't see any reports about it.

  • I'm surprised that you want to avoid a Soniq. Samsung panels, they are decent TVs. Operating System is not great (you don't care for the SmartTV functionality), sound isn't great (it isn't on any of these tvs). Remote controls are not good though.

For under $1000 you could get a quality Soniq TV and have enough left over to buy a home theatre and universal remote to compensate if you so wish.

  • we have a hisense and they are great.

  • Hisense offers pretty good value/feature at the price

  • Skip the Hisense if they don't play the audio through an AV receiver or soundbar. The audio is terrible but it does have nice picture quality.
