Boost Mobile or Other Telstra Based Service for Tassie

I'm with Amaysim currently from their previous cheap deal, but they have gone back to full price and also their service is fairly patchy down here in Tasmania. So I'm thinking about transferring over to Boost mobile, as they are based on the Telstra network right? Therefore they should have better coverage in Tasmania. Am I correct? Also are there any other Telstra based services I should consider? I'm not a huge user. I barely call anyone and hardly txt but use internet on the run for maps and research etc.
Thanks

  • Boost Mobile would be a good choice, there are some deals on starter kits as well. ALDImobile would be your other option, here are there plans, compare them to Boost Plans.

Last I heard only Boost Mobile had full access to Telstra's 3G/4G network, ALDImobile doesn't - I assume that is still the case. I haven't noticed any real difference between Boost and ALDI myself, best to check coverage maps on each provider to see if there are any differences in your area. ALDI coverage, Boost coverage

There's a massive land area difference between Telstra/Boost and Telstra Wholesale (ALDI, Telechoice/Woolworths Mobile) coverage. Telstra Wholesale is roughly 50% smaller.
If you have poor coverage on Optus, then there's a fair chance you'll also have poor coverage on Telstra Wholesale.. which is the product that Telstra sell to compete with Optus.
Coverage Maps should be your first port of call.

  • Boost has the full Telstra network's coverage as they are a wholly owned subsidiary of Telstra.

With the new $30 3gb plus unlimited calls/sms deal starting on the 25th, they really are great value and quite competitive with Aldi.

I live in Hobart, but have found that I have had reception most of the way around Tasmania

Aldi doesn't have the full network, so in more remote parts of Tassie, you do lose reception.

  • Boost mobile has great plans for the price (especially for data!). However I have noticed that Boost prepaid plans expire after 28 days which would equate to roughly 24 days over the course of the year - almost the cost of another month.

You could also try Woolworths Mobile, they offer some great deals too for a $30 recharge and have a 30 day expiry. I'm not sure about Boost but Woolworths Mobile also have data rollover up to 15gb!

I had a chat to Boost recently, and if you select auto-recharge, it requires you to choose a day to recharge each month. As a result, Boost extend it to the full month period (so 30/31 days), as otherwise their auto-recharge wouldn't work as you'd be without credit for 3 days of each month.

      Hopefully this helps
