Looking for nice-looking, sturdy and permanent picture hooks. Prefer concealed, Been to Bunnings and they are all the bulk standard ones. Looked at eBay too and not too inspiring. Or I gave up too early.

Thanks so much Einstein for sharing. Sorry I should have mentioned that we are doing this for our gyprock wall. But will keep this in mind as we also have brick walls.
Those white nylon screw in wall plugs could offer a similar look for Gyprock..
obviously far less capable of holding weight though.. But if it's weighty, you should probably consider installing a picture rail or similar, so you can drill into the timber uprights to take the weight but hang wherever you please.
Probably doesn't meet your definition of nice, but…most of them are hidden anyway.
My place has Brick walls… so this wont apply if you're talking Gyprock.
I use little brass hooks with a dome top, hammer in nylon anchor.

I actually set them up so it's the nylon that actually takes the weight which they're probably not strictly speaking designed to do, but should be fine for lightweight stuff like pictures.
I think the plastic dome makes a nice enough finish and they're super easy to install. One hole, bang with a hammer and you're done.
