Samsung Galaxy S7 Models

Can anyone provide a definitive list of all the Samsung Galaxy S7 models available for use in Australia?

Its very difficult to understand what is local stock, grey or otherwise when purchasing online. Exynos vs Snapdragon. What is good and what isnt, etc

  • Just get the Australian one with an exynos processor. I think people worry too much about insignificant things.
I've had an s7 edge for 6 months. I don't currently use it, but it's been a great phone.

There's literally only one Australian S7 and S7 Edge.

I could be wrong but pretty sure theres only 4 types of S7 models
Aus and everywhere: Exynos 8890 S7 and Exynos 8890 S7 edge
China and US: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 S7 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 S7 edge.

The grey import I think usually comes from china (or Hong Kong?) so it normally comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 as opposed to the Exynos?

Looking online they seem to be quite comparable chips:

The Snapdragon version though allows for a particular (Old from what I read) CDMA band, in which I'm /assuming/ isn't used in Aus so they're basically the same? The Exynos though is typically known as being better in speed (http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s7_exynos_8890_vs_sna…)

The bigger reason people look into local stock vs grey import is that local stock has Samsung warranty which is the full warranty, while overseas stock means warranty is with the company you buy it from itself which means that you have to hope the site you buy it from doesn't just dog you over.

In terms of whether stock is a grey import or not, only the website and seller themselves can tell you where they buy their stock from, though you can assume as Samsung is only selling the Exynos version in Australia, that if it has a Snapdragon in it its probably not Aus stock.

I could be wrong in this info so someone might be able to correct me (or you may want to still do more digging) but yeah.

  • Just returned from the UK. Wife smashed her s7 (flat version) screen. Couldn't found a screen repair service for the s7. Samsung uk wouldn't repair it as they check the IMEI number and only repair local stock.

It's the same here in Australia. They seem to only repair local stock. Some BS about having local parts only even though the phones are identical.

So just worth nothing Samsung Australia only cover local stock. There does not seem to be worldwide warranties.

Also, the phone is waterproof, so getting it repaired by Samsung Keeps the warranty and should retain water protection.

Remember to purchase or have contact start with with American express essentials credit card to have smartphone screen insurance!
